Raising awareness about cardiovascular disease

Officials say 61 percent of adults are expected to have heart disease by 2050.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The American Heart Association predicts that 61 percent of adults in the United States will have heart disease by 2050. Those who have or will develop high blood pressure make up a large majority of this trend.

Up to this point, heart disease has been the leading killer of americans for the last several decades, accounting for more than 800,000 deaths each year.

Obesity, poor diet and a lack of exercise all contribute to the increase in heart disease.

In fact, obesity is expected to increase from 43.1 percent to 60.6 percent by 2050, with nearly 200 million people expected to be affected.
