BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Everyone loves French Toast! When coupled with the traditional Strawberries and Cream as the topping, it became an instant winner for a sweet summer breakfast! What other creative ways you can come up with to celebrate National Strawberries and Cream Day?

Prep Time: 30 Minutes

Yields: 4 Servings

Ingredients:

  • 1-pound fresh Louisiana strawberries, sliced
  • 4 (1½-inch thick) slices stale brioche
  • ¾ cup sugar, divided
  • ¾ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tsps ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup candied pecans

Method:

In a medium bowl, mix together strawberries and ½ cup sugar. Set aside. In a food processor, blend together heavy whipping cream, cream cheese and 2 tablespoons sugar until thick and creamy. In a baking dish, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar. Place bread slices in pan and soak on each side until well coated and soaked through. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Remove bread slices, allowing to drain back into the baking dish, and cook in butter 5–7 minutes or until golden, turning once. To serve, place French toast on center of a plate then add dollop of whipped cream. Top with strawberries and candied pecans. Enjoy.
