Southern falls in SWAC tournament
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WAFB) - It was a hard-fought battle for the Southern University Jaguars during the SWAC tournament but they could not successfully fight off their competitors and advance to the next round of play.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were on the floor for their first games in the SWAC tournament on Thursday, March 14 in Birmingham, Alabama.
The women’s team squared off against the Alcorn State Braves inside Bartow Arena with an 11 a.m. tipoff time.
The Jaguars lost to the Braves with a final score of 59 to 52.
Meanwhile, the Southern men played in the SWAC tournament against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Jaguars fell to the Wildcats, finishing with a final score of 73 to 58.
