BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly released a bald eagle treated by the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s Wildlife Hospital.

The release happened Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at 9 a.m. on the levee near LSU Vet Med across from the corner of Skip Bertman Drive and River Road.

According to the vet school, the female eagle was dehydrated and had a left wing droop when she arrived at LSU Vet Med on Oct. 30, 2023.

While bloodwork did not reveal any abnormalities, radiographs showed she had a fracture in her left coracoid bone, which helps with flight, officials explained.

Faculty, staff, and students provided the eagle with pain relief and cage rest, and she is now fully flighted and ready to be released, officials said.

According to the vet school, wildlife cases can be dropped off at the LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., including weekends. There is no charge for treating wildlife, but LSU Vet Med’s Wildlife Hospital relies on donations to maintain its program and provide care for these animals.
