ExxonMobil launches mentoring program for middle schoolers

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A brand new mentoring program that launches on Tuesday, Jan. 30 will pair middle schoolers in Baton Rouge with someone they can look up.

ExxonMobil is rolling out its Leaders Inspiring the Faces of Tomorrow (LIFT) initiative, which will pair middle school students with mentors to facilitate career readiness and academic success by introducing and providing exposure to STEM careers in the energy industry.

Fifty middle school students in sixth through eighth grades from Istrouma Middle Magnet School and Scotlandville Middle Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy will be paired with mentors from 100 Black Men of Baton Rouge for weekly sessions over the school year.

The Foundation for East Baton Rouge Schools and YMCA of Baton Rouge will also collaborate with field trips, science days and STEM activities.

ExxonMobil is hosting a launch event with students, family members, mentors, and school leadership to celebrate the start of the LIFT initiative. It will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the EBR Career and Technical Center on Lobdell Avenue.
