where's the beef?

‘BBL Drizzy’ Gets the Internet in on the Drake-Kendrick Beef

A few weeks in, and it’s the internet that’s really winning the Drake–Kendrick Lamar beef. That’s never been more clear than after Metro Boomin challenged fans to get in on the action: “best verse over this gets a free beat just upload your song and hashtag #bbldrizzybeatgiveaway.” “You just cheffed a beat about my ass?” Drake responded in an Instagram comment — as if he didn’t just tell Metro to “shut your hoe ass up and make some drums” on “Push Ups.” (No comment on the BBL allegations, though.)

Metro’s beat itself is built on a sped-up sample of comedian King Willonius’s parody song of the same name, done in the style of a ’70s funk-R&B song; all the producer needed to add was some skittering drums for it to take off. The internet has run with it, as everyone from teenagers to up-and-coming rappers get in on the Drake beef. Masego made it into a sax solo, Madison McFerrin sang a (oddly comforting) diss, and even the moms are singing it. Below, some of the best “BBL Drizzy” freestyles.
