What to Stream on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon in January

A new year is here, and we’re all going to be cleansing, hydrating, reading, and exercising, right? But let’s be honest: We’re also going to spend at least some of the time hiding from historic cold snaps or vacation-proffered sunstroke, and there’s nothing quite so easy as getting overwhelmed at all the options out there. So we’ve Marie Kondo-ed the bevy of streaming options across Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon in January to give you a curated list of the very best.

There’s a lot to look forward to this month, starting on New Year’s Day with Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell’s satirical coverage of the Rose Parade on Amazon. Netflix has two investigative docu-series on corruption in business and the food industry, as well as the new season of Grace and Frankie and Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. And you might as well rename January after Geena Davis, considering both A League of Their Own and Thelma & Louise (truly excellent feminist flicks) are made available this month. The 2018 Rose Parade Hosted by Cord & Tish Could this be the first time in your life that you’re looking forward to the Rose Parade? Likely so! Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon are hosting Amazon’s coverage of the event as fictional news personalities. January 1 on Amazon Prime

The Bachelor (Season 22) A new season of America’s quintessential dating show is back on ABC, but you can watch on Hulu—whether you want to participate ironically or totally earnestly is up to you. January 2 on Hulu

Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics (Seasons 8 and 9) Cooking with Ina in her gorgeous Hamptons kitchen is about as soothing it gets in the world of streaming, and Back to Basics is a true delight. January 1 on Hulu

Batman (All films) Begins, Forever, Returns—yes, all the Batman movies will be available to you if you so desire, including Tim Burton’s two films as well as Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. January 1 on Netflix

Beside Bowie A rockumentary that focuses on David Bowie’s Spiders From Mars guitarist and infamous sideman Mick Ronson, who played guitar on five Bowie albums. The film features a voice-over from the late Bowie himself. January 29 on Hulu

Breakfast at Tiffany’s The beloved classic and iconic film for Audrey Hepburn, which you should watch before going to have actual breakfast at Tiffany’s. January 1 on Netflix

Bring It On (All films) Did you know there were five total Bring It On movies, four after the original Kirsten Dunst and Gabriella Union–starring Clovers-Toros showdown? Now you can watch all of them, in order! That’s a lot of cheers. January 1 on Netflix

Cold Mountain The Oscar-winning, heartbreaking adaptation of Ang Lee’s beautiful story comes online, with Heath Ledger’s absolute best performance. January 1 on Hulu

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Jerry Seinfeld’s hilarious, Emmy-winning roving talk show has moved over from YouTube. January 5 on Netflix

Dirty Money A new docu-series investigating scandal and corruption in the world of business—including Donald Trump’s many failures. January 26 on Netflix

A Futile and Stupid Gesture A comedy biopic of the writer Doug Kenney during the rise and fall of the magazine National Lampoon, starring the always excellent Will Forte. January 26 on Netflix

Grace and Frankie (Season 4) The new season of the beloved Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda team-up is available for bingeing. January 19 on Netflix

Ingrid Goes West A perfect satire of our selfie-obsessed social media culture, starring Parks and Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen. January 22 on Hulu

A League of Their Own Available for streaming, just in time to remind us how long women have been fighting for gender equality. Watch the badass fictional Rockford Peaches take on the patriarchy, with Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, Tom Hanks, and, of course, Madonna. January 1 on Hulu

The Parent Trap and The Parent Trap (Original) Relive Lindsay Lohan’s career-making turn as adorable separated twins who scheme to get their divorced parents back together—then see where it all began with the classic Hayley Mills original. January 1 on Hulu

Thelma & Louise In another movie that feels more relevant than ever (also starring Geena Davis!), two women embark on a road trip that ends in the most extreme depiction of devotion to friendship and independence ever depicted on screen. January 1 on Amazon Prime

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams (Season 1) The highly anticipated new sci-fi anthology series produced by and starring Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, based on the stories of author Philip K. Dick. January 12 on Amazon Prime

The Polka King Based on the documentary The Man Who Would Be Polka King, about a Pennsylvania polka sensation who entrapped his fans into a Ponzi scheme, the new film stars Jack Black, Jenny Slate, and Jason Schwartzman. You can stream the documentary, too, starting the same day. January 12 on Netflix

Prime Suspect: Tennison (Season 1) A prequel to one of the early pioneers of the hardened female detective crime series, and one of the very best—Prime Suspect, starring Helen Mirren, which ran in the ’90s on the BBC. Rewind to 1970s London when Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison is a young ambitious officer. January 9 on Amazon Prime

Rent It’s probably been a few years since you sang along to “Seasons of Love,” so it’s high time that Rent is available again to indulge all your musical nerd guilty pleasures. January 2 on Netflix

Rotten From the team behind Parts Unknown and Mind of a Chef, another Netflix docu-series, this time delving into the world of food supply and restaurants. It exposes waste, corruption, and greed. January 5 on Netflix
