While fashion weeks across the world are known for bringing the loudest, most extravagant looks into the streets, each city’s street style is unique. New York is known for its flare, Paris is known for its polished elegance, Milan often takes on a retro style, and London has a balance of edge and old classics (think Burberry trench coat).
Last week in London, street stylers wearing Oxford shirts, crewneck sweaters, and circle skirts revealed a return to the aforementioned classics. While timely trends—such as Mary Jane ballet flats and tulle skirts—were present, London Fashion Week attendees leaned into Britain’s quintessential smart-casual dress code. Read on for a few of our favorite looks.
A circle skirt, white button-down shirt, and slim belt create a timeless, modern look. This House of Dagmar skirt completes the look when paired with a Beare Park silk shirt. Top it off with a belt from Saint Laurent and a Savette bag.
A look that never goes wrong—a pair of beige trousers and white oxford shirt—was seen in several iterations throughout London Fashion Week. This particular version can be complete with a pair of COS pants, a Toteme button-down shirt, and brown leather accessories from J. Crew and Isabel Marant.
Lean into preppy prints with a polka dot skirt from Miu Miu. Pair it with a half-buttoned collared sweater from Alex Mill and a pair of Carel Mary Jane pumps. For the denim look, a chore jacket from A.P.C. is just the trick.
Brown and blue make for a perfect autumn palette. This look brings that palette to life in the form of a button-up shirt and checkered skirt. The Lemaire blue shirt takes on the same deep blue, and pairs perfectly with Stella McCartney’s plaid skirt.
It’s never too late to find the perfect trench. Studio Nicholson’s takes the cake for the sleekest iteration of the timeless look and pairs well with a Max Mara alpaca sweater tied over the shoulders atop the coat.
Last, but certainly not least, is the tulle skirt. When worn with simple knitwear, this skirt takes on a versatile look. Simone Rocha’s embroidered black skirt is the perfect take on tulle, and Zimmermann’s black tulle skirt gives this look a more laid-back feel. Wear them with a crewneck sweater, such as Allude’s gray cashmere iteration.
