Of Course Bella Hadid Is Already Wearing Fashion’s New Favorite Accessory

Hats off to Bella Hadid. Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri just yesterday sent out newsboy caps for Fall 2018 in Paris, and the model is already trying on a patent-leather version by Kangol x Alexander Wang for size. The late-19th-century silhouette recalls screen sirens like Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot, and Edie Sedgwick—all of whom championed similar chapeaux in their heyday. And if Hadid has anything to do with it, the piece may be the thing to replace the berets beloved by It girls the world over in previous seasons.
Hadid’s hat had an edgy vibe thanks to its high-gloss finish, and she kicked up the prep-meets-punk feel even further with a classic polo dress by Vivienne Westwood in fire-engine red. She continued the shine theme with a floor-sweeping Sankuanz coat with a slight all-over sheen. Much like her headgear, the piece had boyish origins: it originally went down the Chinese designer’s men’s runway. Hadid grounded the look with her wear-everywhere platform Dr. Martens combat boots, taking her statement-accessory moment from head to toe.
