13 Thoughts I Had Watching The Trailer For The Idea Of You

I’ve been waiting impatiently for The Idea of You – the Jennifer Westfeldt-penned film starring Anne Hathaway as an older woman and Nicholas Galitzine as the younger, world-famous musician she falls for – ever since it went into production. Yes, it’s based on a book and not Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles’s real life (remember when they briefly and excitingly dated?), but let’s just say the parallels intrigue me, especially since the book itself was inspired by Harry fanfic.

To be clear, the movie looks just a little bit camp, but that said, I’m eager to see Westfeldt in action again as a screenwriter. Also, I haven’t seen the full thing, so maybe it’s the next Citizen Kane, who knows? Watch the trailer for yourself below, then catch up on quite literally all of the thoughts it inspired in me.

  1. I could listen to Anne Hathaway pronounce “Coachella” for the rest of my life.
  2. I do love Ms Anne in a bang (and with a sun hat, no less!).
  3. Nicholas Galitzine’s one little hoop earring... fashion really is saying “gay” again.
  4. “August Moon” is cracking me up as a fake band name, possibly because the actual yet fake-sounding band Walk the Moon went to my college. (Fun fact: their hit song “Anna Sun” is about a Kenyon sociology and Asian studies professor. The more you know!)
  5. Nicholas isn’t really selling “pop idol” to me, but maybe I need to watch the whole movie.
  6. Who says “in Coachella” and not “at Coachella”? I mean, it is a place, but... weird.
  7. Oh, shit, Nicholas is buying art from Anne, and we all know what that means (sex).
  8. The chemistry between these two is real, I will say.
  9. The sun hat rides again!
  10. Ooh, private planes and beach vacations! Anyone who says they would never date a celebrity is lying, IMO.
  11. Sun hat AGAIN! It’s basically the star of this movie, to me.
  12. “People hate happy women.” I see what you did there, Jennifer Westfeldt, and I can’t disagree with you!
  13. Okay, it’s coming out in May, which is rude, because it’s raining in LA and I’m cosy and I want to rent it online now.
