Sarah Jessica Parker (the A-lister who curtsies when meeting strangers) is easily enchanted by the small quirks that life has to offer. This is someone who uploads ambient videos of wind chimes to Instagram and continues to ride the subway despite being able to afford to travel in peace. She is earnest and she is wide-eyed and she wears both things outwardly: in fedoras and mismatched heels.
Most recently SJP’s sense of whimsy – as illustrated by her commitment to calling her husband her “fellow” and using the word “wee”, despite being from neither Ireland nor Scotland – has manifested itself in an unusual styling flourish. As seen most recently here (as well as here and here), the actor has taken to looping her necklace beneath her bra strap so that it dangles over the side of her safety-pinned T-shirt. It’s like adding a little “x” to the end of a text, which is something Parker does on every single post she uploads to Instagram.

A few weeks ago, fashion writer Rachel Tashjian described Parker’s eccentric signature as the work of a “loony tune ballerina couturier” in her Opulent Tips newsletter. “SJP is a great example of someone with style because she, like Chloë Sevigny, is often controversial with her clothes,” she explained. “Because to have style isn’t about always looking great, but about looking ORIGINAL.” Parker understands that fashion isn’t about dropping cash on designer labels, but the small kicks you get from unlocking and developing and cherishing an honest relationship with clothing.
