About YesGlasses

image 1

US-based YesGlasses entered the custom eyewear market in 2017 to offer people stylish, affordable prescription and non-prescription lenses and frames.1

YesGlasses frames and lenses are sold exclusively online from labs in Asia, Canada, and Delaware. This online glasses retailer features several eco-friendly and sustainable styles for adults and children.

YesGlasses Cost

YesGlasses’ adult frames and lenses start at $39, while children’s glasses and frames start at $69. YesGlasses continuously runs promotions and discounts yearly, including a 30% student discount year-round.

YesGlasses provides an affordable solution for customizing eyeglass lenses and frames. This is made possible through direct-from-factory shipments instead of retail placement.

The company also offers free shipping, returns, and exchanges. You can also use your health savings account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds for YesGlasses purchases.

Is YesGlasses Worth It?

YesGlasses provides affordable prescription and non-prescription glasses and sunglasses that are alternatives to local eyewear retailers.

YesGlasses offers a variety of frame styles and lenses to choose from. It also features unique face-shape tools to help guide the selection process.

They accept payment through FSAs and HSAs. While YesGlasses cannot match the craftsmanship of premium eyewear brands, you’d hardly notice the difference at first glance.

Pros and Cons of YesGlasses

Based on our experience and the hundreds of reviews and testimonials we read through, here are some of the commonly mentioned pros:

  • Fast shipping
  • Large selection of frames, lenses, and coatings to choose from
  • Stylish frames that cater to a wide variety of tastes
  • Affordable prescription glasses
  • Listings include high-quality photos and multiple colors, sizes, weights, and prices
  • Various promotional discounts are available
  • Modern case with cleaning cloth included
  • Face Shape Recognition Tool for virtual try-on6
  • $10 off your next YesGlasses purchase for you and someone you referred

The most commonly mentioned cons in YesGlasses reviews include:

  • In-house, brand-specific frames only
  • Cannot try frames on in person at a physical location
  • No pictures of models wearing glasses for comparison
  • Can be challenging to gauge the size and frame thickness
  • Polarized sunglasses are lacking compared to more expensive alternatives

Types of Prescription Glasses from YesGlasses

image 2

When choosing your custom YesGlasses lenses, you can filter by lens category, type, index, and coating.2 YesGlasses offers both prescription and non-prescription glasses.

You can choose from eyeglasses or sunglasses that are:

  • Polarized
  • Tinted
  • Mirrored
  • Light-adaptive
  • Gradient
  • Blue light-blocking
  • Reading

YesGlasses’ lenses feature anti-scratch and anti-reflection coatings that protect the eyes from UVA and UVB rays. Most of these coatings have an additional cost when purchased from most eyewear specialists. YesGlasses lens types include:

  • FT bifocal
  • Single vision
  • Progressive

YesGlasses currently offers four lens indexes2

  • 1.59 Mid-Index – Polycarbonate. These lenses are made from polycarbonate, which is stronger and more durable than plastic. Choose this lens type for stronger prescriptions.
  • 1.61 High Index – Thin. Resin lenses like these are popular and come free with most YesGlasses frame purchases.
  • 1.67 High Index – Super Thin. Another popular choice, these lightweight lenses fit well with rimless frames.
  • 1.74 High Index – Ultra Thin. The strongest prescriptions do best with plastic lenses of this index.

While YesGlasses offers frames and lenses, you can purchase the frames and have your eye doctor insert the lenses instead. YesGlasses consistently adds new styles that are classic, modern, and eye-catching.

When we built our YesGlasses order, we had the chance to review and compare lens indexes and their respective pricing. We found the short descriptions helpful in deciding which lenses best fit our style.

Do Blue Light Blocking Lenses Work?

YesGlasses’ website claims that blue-light-blocking glasses can protect your eye health from digital screens. This makes them a popular choice among customers.3

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) does not entirely support these claims.4 Evidence suggests blue light can affect our sleep patterns but does not cause digital eye strain.5

Is YesGlasses a Reliable Company?

We read hundreds of YesGlasses reviews to see what customers said.

Website and Company Reputation

Here’s a summary of the common themes in positive YesGlasses reviews:

  • YesGlasses customer service reached out to verify the prescription before initiating the order
  • Wide range of stylish prescription glasses frames available
  • Quick delivery
  • Straightforward ordering process
  • Minimal packaging
  • Robust glasses case with included cleaning cloth

However, not all customers had the same favorable experience. Common complaints about the company include:

  • Lack of communication through the delivery process
  • Website photos were close to but did not wholly match lenses as they appeared in-person
  • Customer service unresponsive to replacement and refund requests
  • Frames were not as high-quality as more expensive online glasses retailers

Quality and Authenticity of Prescription Glasses

We recommend wearing your third-party prescription glasses and comparing that view to the one you see through the YesGlasses lenses. If the views match, your YesGlasses prescription glasses are accurate.

Prescription glasses do not have serial numbers. Instead, the numbers printed on the frame temples denote the lens, bridge width, and temple length. These measurements have nothing to do with your pupillary distance (PD). They note the distance between your pupils.

Customer Service and Support

YesGlasses offers a free, one-time replacement for glasses that do not fit. You must return the glasses within 14 days of ordering them for a full refund.

YesGlasses frames and lenses also come with a 365-day quality guarantee. Contact YesGlasses customer service via phone, email, or live chat. The company provides quick delivery of replacement glasses and works with you should something happen to your glasses.

My Experience with YesGlasses

Ordering Process and Virtual Try-On

Scrolling through the thousands of frame styles could take hours, but YesGlasses makes it easy to filter your eyeglasses or sunglasses results by:

  • Gender
  • Shape
  • Rim
  • Size
  • Material
  • Style
  • Feature

Each YesGlasses frame listing includes:

  • High-quality photos
  • Description, including features and specifications
  • Customer reviews
  • A drop-down menu with lens categories
  • Frame color
  • Lens color
  • Size and weight measurements
  • Price

You can also check a box to note that you’ll need prescription lenses. You will need a copy of your lens prescription, including your PD. YesGlasses offers a PD Measurement Online Tool if you need help.7

YesGlasses Detector App and Quiz

YesGlasses’ Find Your Face Shape: Detector App & Quiz made it easy to figure out which glasses best fit my face.6 The virtual try-on service consisted of a single cropping step before I received a recommendation. They also offered me the chance to take a quiz instead.

After completing the face shape quiz, I received recommendations for frames that complement my face shape and ones I should avoid. After clicking “Recommended Glasses” below the uploaded picture, I was redirected to a search that matched those recommendations.

I liked not having to download an app or go through a lengthy questionnaire. However, I wish YesGlasses would allow you to use the Find Your Face Shape tool without signing up for an account.

I ended up choosing the Black Classic Acetate Square Polarized Sunglasses with Gray Non-Rx Tac Sun Lenses for $49 instead of the same frames with prescription lenses starting at $138.8

Glasses Unboxing and First Impressions

I appreciated the minimal packaging that came with the mailed glasses and their case. The case also included a cleaning cloth and the frames.

The glasses case featured a slim band with “YesGlasses” across it. The name also appears on the cleaning cloth. I was impressed by the glasses’ style-forward design and their sleek carrying case, which spoke to the quality of designer frames.

Comfort and Fit of the Glasses

Because I chose these frames as sunglasses, I wanted the most sun protection possible. While the frames are oversized, they include a gray-colored, sun-blocking shade to reduce eye strain. The frames are thicker than more delicate sunglasses and speak to a strong, durable design.

Though these black frames didn’t have nose pieces, the nose bridge fits well and allows for some movement. I’m confident I could have the glasses adjusted at my local eyecare center if needed. But the glasses fit pretty well straight out of the box.

Vision Quality and Lens Coatings

Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the YesGlasses tinted lens coating. The gray-colored tint didn’t influence colors like brown-tinted sunglasses do, but it cut down on glare. The frames also felt sturdy in our hands without feeling too bulky.

I took these black YesGlasses acetate frames to the lake to compare them to designer fishing sunglasses. Despite the lower price point, they did a great job removing the sun’s harsh glare on the water.

These sunglasses make a perfect catch-all pair that wouldn’t hurt your wallet if you lost or damaged them.

Customer Service and Support

Since we were happy with our glasses, we didn’t need to contact the customer service team. Shipping was fast, and we received the glasses without damage. In our experience, buying online from YesGlasses was favorable and convenient.
