Emma Stone Is Thankful Taylor Swift Hooked Her Up With Eras Tour Tickets

“I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get,” the actor told Vanity Fair at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic returned to Jersey City after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19. More than 7,000 spectators—including Emma Stone, Danai Gurira, Karen Gillan, Simone Ashley, and Darren Criss—gathered to watch world-renowned polo player Nacho Figueras and his wife, Delfina Blaquier, compete in a thrilling polo match with the New York City skyline as the backdrop. Since its inception in 2008, the popular event has kicked off the summer social calendar and evolved into a fashion extravaganza showcasing the finest and most whimsical ensembles.

Stone attended her first Polo Classic dressed from head to toe in Louis Vuitton. As an ambassador for the brand, she chose a short-sleeve blouse with yellow stripes tucked into a cream miniskirt accented with gold metal buttons—radiating both modern sophistication and classic elegance. Stone continues to be a formidable fashion force on every red carpet, relying on her chic sartorial sensibilities. However, the Oscar-winning actor admits to making her fair share of terrible fashion mistakes, especially during her teen years.

“I was really into spray tan because I’m from Phoenix. I’m extremely pale, so I was really into tans and into heavy makeup, and I went through a couple of phases: trying to dress like Britney Spears circa 1999 to 2001, and then I kind of went into a mod phase that really did not work for me,” Stone told Vanity Fair as she made her way into the polo match at Liberty State Park. “I owe most things to Petra and her guidance.”

Celebrity stylist Petra Flannery and Stone have worked together since the actor was 18. “She is the secret to anything I wear when I go somewhere, so it’s all Petra,” Stone, now 34, said. “She really deserves all the credit.” While Stone may be modest about her own styling skills, her work with Flannery has resulted in unforgettable red-carpet looks. “A lot of the times with Petra, when we do press for a particular film or show, we’re together as a team discussing, and we get very inspired by the feeling of the film or the show. So that’s really fun to sort of bring out the world of the story that I am promoting through the clothes that I wear.”

Expect Stone to wear some stunning and ornate ensembles while promoting her upcoming film, Poor Things. She plays a 19th-century European woman who is brought back to life with the brain of an infant. With long black hair and dark eyebrows, Stone is unrecognizable in the role. “I had a lot of extra hair sewn into the back of my head. It was super heavy but really worth it. More than anything, it’s my very favorite character I’ve ever gotten to play,” said Stone, who reunites with director Yorgos Lanthimos from The Favourite, which earned the actor her third Oscar nomination. “The character I play in this movie is Bella, and I am completely in love with her. She’s not like anybody else. She doesn’t have a history, so she’s building herself as she goes. She’s so interested in the world, and she’s full of life and passion and curiosity. It was just incredible to play somebody who has that kind of joy and that sense of adventure in them and basically her whole entire lifetime. Her growth was a huge gift.”

Before she heads out on her press tour for Poor Things in September, Stone is enjoying some downtime. In March, she showed up at Glendale, Arizona’s State Farm Stadium for the opening night concert of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. On social media, fans posted videos of Stone singing along to the pop star’s hit songs, including “You Belong With Me.”

“The concert was pretty amazing. I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time. I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get,” said Stone. “She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind. I mean, the amount of sheer stamina to do three and a half hours and perform 44 songs and to maintain the extreme energy of the audience—I’ve never seen anything like it.”

When asked if she would ever want to sing a duet with Swift, she quickly dismissed the idea. “Oh, God, hell no!” said Stone, who won an Oscar for her singing and dancing in 2016’s La La Land. “I can’t sing, like, for a massive stadium. Let’s not even go down that road. She has insane talent—I could never do what she does.”
