Yord Yedema (1994) is a PhD student in the organic geochemistry and marine palynology and paleoceanography groups at Utrecht University. His research is part of the NESSC program on land-ocean transfer and focusses on the fate of terrestrial organic carbon in the northern Gulf of Mexico. By applying different kinds of lipid biomarkers, bulk sediment parameters and palynology on sediments collected during a research cruise to the Gulf of Mexico in 2020, this project aims to characterize and quantify the dispersal of different kinds of terrestrial organic matter discharged by the Mississippi river and its influence/relation with marine productivity.
