The new corporate headquarters of Chemonics International is a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible office that brings together our staff under one roof in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1975, Chemonics is a leading global sustainable development firm committed to promoting meaningful change around the world. The design of the building presented an opportunity to reflect our mission and values through sustainable building practices that enhance the wellbeing of our staff and further connect Chemonics to our community.

Chemonics-Washington integrated environmentally responsible practices and efficient resource use throughout the building, with a prioritization of energy- and water-efficient features and sustainable and healthy material selections. The project achieved an 87% construction waste diversion rate and utilizes 23% less energy compared to code minimum design. Floor to ceiling windows and three terraces invite an abundance of natural light into the building and promote employee health and connectivity with the outdoors.

The project is located in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood of Washington, D.C., a 460-acre neighborhood located between I-395 and the Anacostia River. The building’s location is well connected to public transportation and bikeshare stations, which promotes low-carbon commuting and a reduced parking footprint. The neighborhood’s easy access to riverfront parks and diverse mix of restaurants, retail stores, and community facilities encourages walkability, active lifestyles, and neighborhood connectivity.
