Streets near U.S. Capitol will be Closed during Marine Corps Marathon

Annual race will impact Capitol Complex on Sunday, October 22, 2017

The running of the 42nd annual Marine Corps Marathon is taking place on Sunday, October 22, 2017. In order to ensure the safety of the approximately 30,000 runners expected to participate in event, there will be several street closures throughout the Capitol Complex beginning at approximately 6 a.m.

The United States Capitol Police will implement traffic cuts and street closures as necessary throughout the day. These street closures are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions. Motorists traveling in the area of the event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes, if possible.

The following streets will be closed during the event.

  • Third Street, NW, from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, to Independence Avenue, SW
  • Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, from Third Street, NW, to Peace Circle
  • First Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, to Maryland Avenue, SW
  • Maryland Avenue, SW, from Garfield Circle to Third Street, SW

The traffic restrictions are expected to be lifted at approximately 1 p.m.
