PBS’ A Capitol Fourth Concert 2007

On Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at 8:00 p.m., PBS’ A Capitol Fourth Concert will be broadcast live from the West Lawn of the United States Capitol. There will also be a dress rehearsal on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Public access to the West Lawn begins at 5:00 p.m. on both days. These events are free and open to the public--no tickets are required. People are encouraged to limit the number of personal items they will carry to this event.

Additional security precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and security of those in attendance. Anyone attending the events will be required to pass through security before entering the event site. This will include an administrative search of all bags, backpacks, and closed containers. Strollers and folding chairs will be allowed in.

The following street closures will be in effect beginning Monday, July 2, 2007 at 5:00 p.m., through 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007:

1. First Street, NW/SW between Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue

2. First Street, NW/SW between Peace Circle and Garfield Circle

3. Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between First Street and Third Street

4. Maryland Avenue, SW between First Street and Third Street

Anyone planning to attend this event is encouraged to use public transportation, and to bring plenty of drinking water. The nearest stations are Capitol South, Federal Center SW (Orange/Blue line) and Union Station (Red line). The United States Capitol Police would also like to remind those attending either event of the District of Columbia law prohibiting the possession of any open alcoholic beverages.
