When it comes to business coaching, most clients expect their coaches to strictly guide business and finance concepts and rarely discuss anything outside of those domains. But, unlike other business coaches, Mike McGlothlin, a financial professional of over 35 years, business coach, and educational speaker, emphasizes the importance of health and wellness as a crucial part of business success.

Mike is currently the executive vice president of Ash Brokerage’s retirement business, a role he has held for more than 11 years. Over the years, he has worked his way up, going from personal production to managing sales desks, and eventually managing national wholesaling organizations.

Mike is also the co-owner of Ageless Fitness, a functional fitness and wellness center that offers personalized exercise programs for anyone wanting to increase their fitness, especially middle-aged and elderly professionals. Recognized as the best overall touchless facility in 2023, Ageless Fitness provides natural methods like halotherapy, cryotherapy, red light therapy, infrared sauna, and compression therapy, which help heal and strengthen the immune and cardiorespiratory systems.

Mike combines all these to create more holistic coaching services that can be applied to a broader range of businesses. He believes that people will be more able to make the right decisions to grow their business if they take good care of themselves, ensuring that they are at their best and sharpest condition.

One major parallel between business and wellness is that a problem in one area may actually be a symptom of an underlying problem elsewhere. By taking a functional approach, Mike can closely work with clients to remind them of their goals, analyze their problems, and create a detailed plan to address them.

“During business coaching, whenever I start talking about health, I notice that many people start leaning forward, indicating their interest in the topic,” Mike says. “Stress is a very real issue among professionals, especially here in the US. A lot of people say that they feel unwell, but they can’t pinpoint exactly how. When you drill down into that, a lot of that is related to inflammation caused by chronic stress. Sadly, many professionals say that they don’t have the time to prioritize their health because they have so much other stuff to do. I tell them that they should prioritize themselves and their well-being because if they’re not at their best, they can't make the best decisions for their staff. I remind them that their staff are depending on them to lead the company to new heights, to be able to grow, and, ultimately, help the community.”

Mike adds that men can be more prone to disregarding their own health and “playing through” any ailments, due to a macho culture or the pressure to keep up with the Joneses. He believes this is a symptom of not having the proper metrics and not thinking about what they need to prioritize to achieve success.

However, on the bright side, Mike observed that there is a growing awareness of wellness among professionals, employers, and industry networking groups.

“I am pleasantly surprised to learn that procedures, such as red light therapy, cryotherapy, and compression therapy, are becoming more well known,” he says. “More people, especially high net worth individuals, are becoming aware of those modalities and are very open to trying them, frequently upon recommendation by a friend. There are also a lot of health insurance carriers here in the US that are now focusing more on wellness, giving benefits such as gym memberships and other preventative and recovery modalities. We are glad that more people are becoming aware of the importance of prioritizing their health and wellness, and how it translates into driving their business to greater heights.”
