Valerie Bertinelli is in a relationship after divorce: 'Iām incredibly grateful for him'
Valerie Bertinelli confirms sheās dating again.
āIāve met someone. And Iām incredibly grateful for him,ā the actress and cooking star told USA TODAY Tuesday while discussing her new cookbook, āIndulgeā (out April 2). āItās unlike any relationship that Iāve ever experienced with a man. I donāt want to say too much, but I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have met him, because I wasnāt expecting it!
āHe was not on my radar. I was going to die with my six cats and my dog and be incredibly happy doing it. So this came out of left field, and Iām grateful it did. Heās very special.ā

Bertinelli, 63, divorced Tom Vitale, her husband of nearly 11 years, in 2022. On Monday, she shared an old video to her Instagram Stories captioned, āWhen someone asks if Iāll start dating again soon,ā in which she adamantly shakes her head and mouths āYeah, (expletive) no.ā In the repost, she added, āThis didnāt age well.ā

She canāt believe she went public with the relationship, either. āWhat was I doing? ā¦ I just canāt help it. When Iām flipping happy, itās all over me, and heās one of the main reasons.
āI really want women and men to take away that itās the work that you do (on yourself) that can lead you to meeting someone like Iāve been lucky enough to meet right now. This would not have happened three years ago, four years ago, last year ā it wouldnāt have. And I feel incredibly lucky to have met him and made a connection with him.ā
Bertinelli stepped out Sunday at the 2024 Oscars, accompanying Wolfgang Van Halen (her son with Eddie Van Halen) and his wife Andraia Allsop on the red carpet. Van Halen was in attendance to team with Ryan Gosling and Slash on an epic performance of best original song nominee āIām Just Kenā from āBarbie.ā
The āOne Day at a Timeā star wore a vintage cream pantsuit by designer Richard Tyler, pulled from her closet. āI wore it at a big CBS anniversary celebration in 2003. Itās just been sitting in its dry-cleaner bag for 21 years.ā
She raved about Wolfgang Puckās menu at the Governors Ball after-party. āIt was really good! They had mac and cheese that was absolutely delicious, these gold spray-painted chocolate Oscars. They had these really great little sweet and savory tiny tacos with a sweet pickled onion. Absolutely delicious.ā

But she says she declined the champagne that was flowing at the awards show. She feels āemotionally healthierā when she skips alcohol, ābecause itās a depressant.ā She hasnāt had a drink since Jan. 1. āThat just happened kind of accidentally, because I was doing dry January, then February came along, and now itās March and I still havenāt drank, so itās like, oh, I guess Iām not drinking now. But Iām not setting myself up for failure. Iām not saying Iām never going to drink again because I might, I donāt know.
āI didnāt want to feel the way Iām going to feel after Iāve had a glass of champagne. It was a super-long day, and if I add alcohol into that, I was going to wake up a little depressed.
āIām already sky-high, high as a kite, full of joy, I donāt need the addition of alcohol that I used to think would make me happy or release anxiety. I was already feeling amazing. Why do I need alcohol?ā
