The Bilt World Elite Mastercard® is the first of its kind, allowing cardholders to use a credit card to pay their rent without charging a transaction fee and even earn 1 point per dollar on that monthly expense (up to 100,000 points each calendar year). Typically, landlords don’t accept credit cards due to the processing fees. But Bilt provides several options that allow you to pay your rent with the card without you or the landlord incurring additional transaction fees.
Another feature that sets the Bilt Mastercard apart from other Wells Fargo credit cards is that you can transfer your rewards to more than a dozen airline and hotel loyalty programs, making it possible for you to get more value out of your points.
- Annual fee: $0.
- Rewards: 1 point per $1 on rent payments without a transaction fee (on up to 100,000 points each year), 2 points per $1 on travel (when booked through the Bilt Travel Portal or directly with an airline, hotel, car rental or cruise company), 3 points per $1 on dining and 1 point per $1 on other purchases. Methodology
Our credit cards team has spent hours analyzing hundreds of credit cards. We took a deep dive into the details of each product and that analysis, combined with our years of experience covering credit cards, informed us as we developed these credit card rankings.
Should you get a Wells Fargo credit card?
Wells Fargo offers only a handful of credit cards, but each one offers solid value with no annual fee. If you’re considering a Wells Fargo credit card, it’s important to consider your spending habits and preferences to determine the right one for you.
“Our growing credit card portfolio offers consumers more choice, value and convenience while maintaining the simplicity and security they crave in a card,” says Krista Phillips, head of consumer credit cards and marketing at Wells Fargo. “We remain laser-focused on delivering a best-in-class payments experience, and that includes building high-value card products with benefits and rewards that mean the most to our cardholders and provide more opportunities to maximize their everyday spending.”
The average U.S. household spends $25,087 on credit cards each year, according to our data. With the Wells Fargo Active Cash, you can simply multiply that figure by 0.02 to know how much you’ll earn in rewards on that spending — that’s $501.74 in cash back.
With the Wells Fargo Autograph Card, however, you’ll need to break down your spending into each of the card’s bonus categories to get an idea of how much you can earn.
And if you’re a renter, the Bilt Mastercard allows you to earn up to 100,000 bonus points each year on rent payments alone — that’s worth $1,250 in travel if you book it through the Bilt Travel Portal. Depending on how much you pay in rent, being able to earn rewards on those purchases that you can’t get with any other credit card can make the card worth your while.
In addition to rewards, take some time to consider other features. For example, if you want an intro APR promotion, consider how much time you’d need to pay down the balance. For larger balances, it could make sense to opt for the Wells Fargo Reflect Card, even though it doesn’t offer rewards, so that you can maximize your interest savings.
Finally, it’s important to note that all four of Wells Fargo’s credit cards require good or excellent credit to get approved, so check your credit score before you apply to get an idea of your approval odds.
Before you apply for any credit card, it’s important to take your time to shop around and compare options from multiple card issuers to determine which is the best fit for you.
