VPN Unlimited review

VPN Unlimited is a good option for business users with typical internet usage needs looking for a bargain price on a long-term subscription. VPN Unlimited is one of the cheapest options we reviewed for one-year subscriptions. Consider a lifetime subscription for the best value, where you only have to pay once and can use the VPN as long as the company exists.

Free trials don’t require credit card information. To get started, simply sign up and download the VPN Unlimited app. Source: VPN Unlimited

It isn’t the fastest VPN, but with average download speeds of 150 Mbps, it’s plenty fast for typical web browsing, email, and video streaming needs. Most users wouldn’t notice much difference between this and faster VPNs, but businesses regularly downloading and uploading large multimedia files may feel constrained. Overall, VPN Unlimited is a good value for long-term plans.

VPN Unlimited overview and facts

VPN Unlimited is a virtual private network product from KeepSolid, a company providing a suite of privacy and security software and tools. VPN Unlimited launched in 2013 and quickly became the company’s flagship product. The company operates out of a main office in Odessa, Ukraine. It generally earns good customer reviews from past users.

Lifetime plans are an incredible deal at VPN Unlimited, as you’ll only have to pay once to access nearly all premium features. VPN Unlimited covers the needs of even the most technical users, with support for split tunneling, kill switch, DNS protection, and other advanced features. And while speeds are not as fast as top-tier competitors, they’re plenty fast to handle any web browsing, email, file downloads, and video streaming needs.

VPN Unlimited doesn’t offer a free plan, but you can get a seven-day free trial (no credit card necessary) with a 30-day money back guarantee if you decide to sign up. As with many competitors, paying for a single month at a time is significantly more expensive per month than longer-term plans.

The one-year plan is an excellent deal at just $5 per month when paid annually. If you know you’ll have more extensive needs, a lifetime plan costs about $200. You break even with that compared to an annual plan in a little under four years.

You can also sign up for a bundle called MonoDefense, where you’ll get VPN Unlimited plus a password manager, DNS firewall and smart DNS apps.

VPN Unlimited individual plans

There’s only one tier available for single users, with varying costs depending on how long you pay for up-front. All paid plans include anonymous browsing, simultaneous connections for up to five devices, and full access to more than 3,000 servers in over 80 locations worldwide.

Avoid bogged-down server connections by tracking the workload of your favorite servers. Choosing a server with a light workload can help boost your VPN speeds. Source: VPN Unlimited

VPN Unlimited for teams

With five users or more, you can secure a significant discount. For five users, the cost is $19.99 per month when paid monthly, $8.33 per month when paid annually, or $499.99 for a lifetime subscription. Plans are available for five, 10, or 20 users. Larger businesses should contact KeepSolid directly for enterprise pricing.

With business plans, each user has access to the same features as individual users, including up to five connected devices per user at a time with unlimited bandwidth.

Individual plan

Individuals get access to all of VPN Unlimited’s features with any paid plan and nearly any kind of device that supports a VPN. Supported devices include Mac, iOS, Windows, Android, Linux, smart TVs and routers, and browser plugins on Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

VPN Unlimited includes:

  • Two-factor authentication.
  • Five devices per account.
  • Unlimited traffic and connection speed.
  • WireGuard, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2 and KeepSolid Wise protocols.
  • Military-grade AES 256-bit encryption.
  • 24/7 email and instant live chat support.
  • Torrent (P2P) servers.
  • Streaming-optimized servers.
  • Full access to 3000+ servers in 80+ locations.
  • Zero-log policy.

With a zero-log policy and operations based in Ukraine (outside the five eyes data-sharing agreement), users can be confident that their data and information will remain private as long as they’re connected.

Team plan

With five to 20 users, pricing goes down to about $4 per month when billed monthly or $1.67 per user when billed annually. Team plans give each user their own VPN Unlimited account controlled through an admin dashboard. If you have a team that frequently travels for work or you deal with any kind of sensitive customer or financial data, enforcing a VPN policy may be prudent.

VPN Unlimited add-ons and optional features

While most users should be able to use the standard paid plans, you can upgrade your VPN Unlimited account in three different ways.

Personal static IP address

If you need a fixed personal IP address for any reason, you can get one for $14.99 per month or $12.50 per month when billed annually. This will greatly increase your VPN expenses, however, a static IP address can be helpful. If your company deals with private data with cybersecurity measures that geoblock or flag suspicious logins, logging into a static IP fixed to one location may help circumvent issues. However,  it’s important to note that a static IP is not a dedicated IP address; you will share a static IP with other users, unlike a dedicated IP.e

With a VPN Unlimited static IP address, you can choose an IP based in Canada, Germany, Netherlands, the United States or the United Kingdom. Personal static IP addresses are allowed one terabyte (TB) of monthly traffic.

Personal server

To upgrade further, you can secure your own personal private VPN server. Personal servers are available in a large number of regions worldwide, though not all locations include unlimited bandwidth. When picking a plan, you can choose monthly, annual, or lifetime subscriptions.

Monthly and lifetime subscriptions come with 1 TB, 2 TB, or 3 TB of monthly data, more than most businesses would ever need. Lifetime personal servers include 900 GB of data at full speed. Beyond 900 GB of data usage, connections are throttled, but only for users with lifetime personal server plans. Plans start at $24.99 per month.

Additional devices

If five simultaneous connections per user isn’t enough, you can upgrade to add more devices. Again, this comes with monthly, annual and lifetime pricing. You can choose to add one, five, or 10 devices. A single device starts at $0.99 per month.

The lifetime subscription is only available for five devices with a one-time charge of $99.99.

VPN Unlimited customer support and experience

In general, the VPN Unlimited customer experience is very good. Apps are easy to install and use, and features allow you to extend coverage to nearly any device using several popular connection protocols and the company’s own proprietary protocol, KeepSolid Wise.

Customer support is available by email or live chat 24/7, but there’s no phone support. In our testing, a live agent quickly and efficiently answered our questions. The agent provided links to further information and pointed us to an extensive knowledge base with how-to guides that walk you through the steps to handle technical issues on your own.

Past customers share a generally positive experience with VPN Unlimited through review sites like Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). On Trustpilot, for example, VPN Unlimited holds a 4.3 rating with more than 850 reviews. Positive reviews focus on good pricing and support, while complaints share trouble connecting, slow speeds, and a frustrating experience canceling recurring subscriptions.

VPN Unlimited performs fairly well and is a good deal for the budget crowd, but those willing to pay more for faster speeds may consider NordVPN. As one of the world’s biggest VPN providers, NordVPN hosts more than 5,500 servers in 60 countries—about double the size of VPN Unlimited’s network of 3,000 servers.

While it’s faster, NordVPN is also more expensive than VPN Unlimited in most cases. With a one-year plan, the most basic of NordVPN’s three tiers of service and VPN Unlimited’s single plan charge roughly the same rate, $4.59 and $5.00 per month, respectively. However, it’s hard to beat the value of VPN Unlimited’s lifetime subscription plan.

ExpressVPN is another high-performance VPN with faster average speeds than VPN Unlimited. However, it’s more expensive. Monthly plans are about 25% more expensive and annual plans are about 40% more expensive at ExpressVPN than VPN Unlimited.

While they don’t share server counts like competitors, ExpressVPN does offer impressive average speeds. They’re not the fastest around, but still better than VPN Unlimited. It’s up to you to decide if that extra performance is worth the additional cost, but if you’re looking for the most budget-friendly option, a lifetime subscription to VPN Unlimited is the most cost-efficient option.

Is VPN Unlimited right for your business?

VPN Unlimited ranks in the middle of the pack for VPN subscriptions when you’re looking for a single month. But as you look at the longer terms, VPN Unlimited becomes more exciting. With annual plans starting at $5 per month and lifetime plans available, there are bargains to be had with VPN Unlimited. It’s also a good deal for businesses with at least five users.

Most technical needs are well covered with VPN Unlimited. It’s much faster than the slowest VPNs but doesn’t keep up with the average speeds of top companies. However, with a typical home or small business internet connection, you may not notice the difference between VPN Unlimited and faster options.

VPN Unlimited is best for small business owners looking for privacy with typical internet use, and even some more complex use cases. But if you require the added functionality of a dedicated IP address and want the fastest connection around, you may want to shop around for a better fit for your needs.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

VPN Unlimited offers a free seven-day trial for new users. The free trial doesn’t require any credit card information, so you won’t be auto-enrolled into a paid plan at the end of your trial.

VPN Unlimited operates out of a main office in Ukraine, which falls outside of the purview of the five countries known as the five eyes. The five eyes is a data-sharing agreement between countries that could require a VPN company to share data logs.

While VPN Unlimited isn’t within the five eyes’ jurisdiction, its parent company KeepSolid is. Based in New York, KeepSolid may have to cooperate with law enforcement in some circumstances, which could give some VPN Unlimited users pause when it comes to VPN Unlimited’s ability to keep user data completely private and anonymous.

VPN Unlimited operates over 3,000 servers in over 80 locations. Europe and North America are well represented, providing United States businesses with numerous nearby servers to connect. Locations in South America, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific are more limited.

VPN Unlimited is secure and supports a long list of protocols and security features. It even offers its own proprietary protocol, KeepSolid Wise. VPN Unlimited has a no-log policy and includes features such as a kill switch to shut down traffic if your device is disconnected from the VPN server.

A VPN protocol determines the type of encryption used when connecting to the VPN server network. Options include TLS, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2, and OpenVPN. The industry standard WireGuard is supported and recommended. KeepSolid also offers its own protocol called KeepSolid Wise.

VPN Unlimited offers native apps for most popular computers, smartphones, smart TVs and web browsers. You can also configure it to work with your router or network attached storage (NAS). With the native applications, you can download and install, enter your username and password, and click a button to connect. Connecting with a router, NAS, or other VPN software requires additional configuration.

VPN Unlimited adheres to a strict no-log policy. The no-log policy includes browsing history, connection times, metadata, downloads, server usage, data content and your local IP address. Your activity on the VPN is private.

VPN Unlimited offers download speeds of 150 Mbps and upload speeds of 77 Mbps on average. These speeds are around the middle of the providers on our Best Business VPNs list. You may want to look elsewhere if you care about speed above all else. However, the speeds here are fast enough for multiple simultaneous video streams, so most users shouldn’t find connection speeds limiting.

VPN Unlimited works with Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, Windows Phone, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, Google Chromecast, Kodi, routers and NAS systems. It also works with web traffic in your browser using Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Edge plugins.
