Joan Vassos Revealed as Lead of ‘The Golden Bachelorette’

Joan Vassos is going to be handing out the golden roses. The Golden Bachelor alum has been named the first-ever lead of The Golden Bachelorette. The exciting news was announced during Disney’s Upfront presentation on May 14.

The Golden Bachelorette will air Wednesdays this fall on ABC before new episodes of Abbott Elementary. Following the success of The Golden Bachelor last fall, Bachelor Nation fans have been clamoring for a Golden Bachelorette spinoff. Now we know who the show’s leading lady will be.

ABC released the first promo for The Golden Bachelorette as well. Vassos stuns in a gold sequined gown as she grabs a golden rose. “I’m Joan and I’m your first Golden Bachelorette,” she says as Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” plays. She reposted the promo on her Instagram Story and wrote, “The secret is out! I’m honored to be #TheGoldenBachelorette!”

Vassos was one of the contestants looking for love with Gerry Turner during the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor. However, her journey was cut short when she had to unexpectedly leave in Week 3 to take care of her daughter after a difficult delivery.

“My family will always be first,” Vassos said on the show. “Once you become a mom, you’re always a mom, even when your kids are older. Nothing is more important.”

The 61-year-old is a proud mom to four kids. She also has two grandkids. Vassos, who works as a private school administrator in Rockland, Maryland, joined The Golden Bachelor to look for love again after losing her husband of 32 years.

The Golden Bachelorette will be the only Bachelor Nation series airing on ABC this fall. The Bachelorette Season 21 with lead Jenn Tran will premiere on July 8. The Bachelor Season 29 won’t premiere until 2025.
