Cruise on Celestyal Crystal

Taking a cruise in May and would like to know which deck is best if you are seasick.

Thinking about a cabin midship but would like recommendations on deck level.

Value your opinions, they have always made my trips memorable.

Thank you,

I am scheduled to depart on a 4 Day Cruise on the Celestyal Olympia on 05-18-2015. Does anyone know the location address and dock of our departure and arrival?

I just got back from a Celestyal cruise on the Olympia...it departed from the main cruise terminal in Piraeus and ended there as well. I actually got off in Santorini and stayed there instead of continuing back to Piraeus, though. If you have any questions about the cruise, the ship or whatever, please ask me!

Thanks for your response.

Is the departure and arrival at Passenger Terminal A?

I do have a few questions if you don't mind?

Do you need to dress for dinner?

I read that shorts are not allowed in the dining room. Is that right?

How rough are the seas? Is sea sickness a concern?

Any information you can pass along is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the location of the terminal as we booked through Gate 1 Travel and were driven to the port and escorted to the ship by a representative. No fancy dress needed but you can't wear shorts in the restaurant at dinner time, only at breakfast and lunch. You can wear shorts in the buffet at any time.

For us, the seas were very rough. I did feel quite seasick the first day (I was very close to throwing up) but got used to it by the next morning. This was my first cruise and I found it very odd to be lying in bed at night and feel the swaying. I looked like I was drunk trying to walk down the hall to our room! I think because it's a smaller ship, you feel the motion a lot more. The staterooms are TINY and the bathroom is even smaller. I couldn't believe how small it was...everything worked well, though, and the staff was awesome, very friendly. We purchased the all-inclusive drink package (alcohol for my husband and non-alcohol for me) and I think it was worth it.

Anything else, please ask. :-)

We are doing the 3 day cruise on Celestyal leaving from Athens in a few days. We were planning on using Rick Steves book for advice on what to do in each port. I left the book at home & I can't find one in the airport. Any advice on what to do in each port? Also, do you know what time you would actually get off the ship in Athens on the last day. The website says 6AM but I didn't know if that is when the ship gets in port or if that is the actual time you disembark. We are trying to get a flight home the same day & wondering if we would have enough time. Thanks!!

Hi, Steph. We chose to take the shore excursions in each port offered by the ship. We really enjoyed them (guides were phenomenal!) and it was nice to be the first ones off the ship. Those who choose to go out on their own often had to wait on the ship for over an hour to disembark because they were the last ones allowed to leave. If your port is only accessible by tender boat, that wait is even longer. We had free time at the end of excursion before last call to get back on the boat. I did not disembark in Athens, we got off in Santorini instead and flew back to Athens a day later. But when we booked the trip, we were told if we disembarked in Athens, we must get a flight out of Athens no earlier than 11AM.

Oh, sorry, forgot to say that the instructions given to the passengers for disembarkation in Athens said everyone must be off the ship no later than 7:30 AM.
