- Linda APittsburgh, Pennsylvania492 contributionsGreat Indoor Farmers MarketAs they are only open 3 days a week, this is a must stop if you are in the area. It is the oldest public farmers market in the country, housed in an historic building. There are over 60 local vendors offering everything from fresh meats, produce, cheeses as well as an array of food and snacks where you can grab a bite to eat. We, unfortunately, didn't have enough time to wander all of the aisles as we got there near closing and wish we could have spent longer.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 17, 2023
- jcrdaycareGuilford, Connecticut636 contributionsDon’t miss this marketLoved this place. We walked through the whole market before going on a food tour. Returned later to make purchases forgetting that they close at 3. Will have to make a trip tomorrow to pick up items to take home.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 1, 2023
- Bernice GFlorence, Italy94 contributionsYes, Experience This!I felt like I had to go since it is the oldest market in the US. And though I couldn't buy most (I was headed across the border) I did get the best cup of coffee and some homemade pet treats for my Grandhund. I talked with someone later who had also been there that morning and he went on about a brisket he had purchased. So much fresh, homegrown, and locally grown. I would say a must do.Visited August 2023Traveled soloWritten September 9, 2023
- @2morebyrdsBowling Green, Virginia16 contributionsFlowers, produce, meat, seafood, bakery itemsCheck the hours before you go and get there early. It was a very hot day when we went and there is no a/c there. Beautiful flowers at several stalls. The meat and deli items looked delicious and were cheaper than the area where we live. ** If you live far away bring a cooler and get some ice. Wish we had!** Food to purchase ready to eat including some gluten free bakery items. Prices are high on some things so look around before you purchase.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 13, 2023
- ElaineW201564 contributionsPerfect for a rainy dayIt was raining so we decided an indoor market was a good place to start the day. We were not dissatisfied. Breakfast was made with produce straight from the farm. The vendors were knowledgeable and friendly. Overall a great way to spend a leisurely Saturday morning! Can’t wait to go back.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2023

- JanetRt66Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania10 contributionsUnique and fun visit in downtown Lancaster. The Lancaster Central Market was fun, delicious food and a unique market. Glad you recommended it. Caution... if you park in the parking lot - be sure to push the button for the ticket when you enter. You need it when you exit.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023
- Songbird865Pueblo, Colorado536 contributionsLots of good looking food.Lots of prepared food stalls ans several produce. I was expecting more crafts and amish/mennonite fare etc. Enjoyed walking around and seeing the variety offered. The goat stall had great goat cheese with cherries and something different-goat sticks (as opposed to beef). Prices very reasonable at the coffee stand. A nice outing but do not plan to spend a lengthy time here.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 27, 2024

The Lancaster Central Market is the most friendly, cleanest and most appetizing food hall/market I have ever visited. It is compact and navigable. If not the largest in square feet, its quality as well as variety put the Lancaster hall in the same leagues as the most glorious sites I have visited in the USA and abroad such as the Grand Central Market in Los Angeles, the Quincy Market in Boston, La Boqueria in Barcelona and Old Market Hall in Helsinki. Don't miss it.

This a pretty basic Farmer's Market. Most of the produce and baked goods appeared to be fresh. The soft pretzel we had wasn't that great. The hand pies were buttery and delicious. It's pretty small, but the area is iteresting to grab a coffee, and people watch a while.

Central Market is the core of a busy group of small businesses. It is a classic open booth market with a wide range of products. To me, the Shady Maple booth stood above others. Great choices of bake goods. The staff is upbeat and friendly. Super clean. Will be a first stop on any return visit. The overall market has limited days of operation. Plan accordingly. Busy place. Just outside, there was a musician by the name of Roddy. We really enjoyed a sit while listening to him.

Central market is the perfect place for a fresh, handmade lunch and dessert if you’re enjoying a walk in Lancaster. Don’t miss the Nord, a Scandinavian eatery for a great grab and go meal. They have the BEST hot dog ever! Made to order and served on a delicious brioche bun, The owners are kind, hardworking folks who put forward quality items. So good!

A great place to go to get some sweet and savory treats. Easy parking and great feel. Not as big as I thought but worth the quick visit.

This is my second time to Lancaster, and my first stop is always at the Central Market. I was able to get some excellent baked goods for the family back home, and a wonderful breakfast sandwich for myself.

When is the best time to visit with three kids? Any breakfast options inside? We will most likely visit the Friday, week before Halloween.
Written April 5, 2019
Midmorning on Tuesday or Friday is best. Many items for sale to eat for breakfast and a few tables available. More seating upstairs.

I’ve never seen a dog inside market.

They are open year-round Tuesdays Fridays and Saturdays and they open at 6 AM. I would check the website in case something has changed and major holiday closings.
