    Fun for the Entire Family
An absolutely amazing museum that is truly fun for all ages. My daughter loved the Wegman's grocery store, I had fun on the Sesame Street steps, and my husband played with the Lincoln Logs in the Toy Hall of Fame for over an over. In addition to the permanent exhibits and the Toy Hall of Fame, the museum offers unique special exhibits. We had such a wonderful time that we purchased a Family Membership.

    Amazing museum
this museum is fantastic - for kids and adults alike. the first floor seems to appeal more to younger ones with the Sesame Street exhibit and the Wegman's play space. However, the 2nd floor is all about the history of games, toys and video games. What a collection! There is so much to see. I had no idea there was a toy hall of fame and a video game hall of fame. There is a whole section where you can play pinball and video games (you have to pay). However, in the Level Up section, you can play some games for free. This isn't by jam, but my 53 yo husband and 8 yo sold loved it! We were passing through NY State and decided to stay here specifically for this museum. we stayed at the new Hampton Inn which is next door. It's nice b/c you can get your hand stamped and leave and come back which is what we did - to have lunch. Try and go on a Thurs when the museum is open until 8. You defintely could spend several hours here. My son also enjoyed the skyline/ropes course in the air. Also you save $2 per ticket if you buy online.

    Amazing place
This museum is amazing! For little kids and big kids and adults alike. Go on a Thurs if you can since it is open - late until 8. The 2nd floor is all about the history of games, toys and video games. Hubby and I are Gen X and it brought back many memories from childhood. Just so cool. He and our son (8) were completely enthralled by the video games as well. We were there for hours. it's a must see!

    Great place for kindergartners!
My 5 year old loved this place. Just when you think that you're done...there is more. We were there 7 hours. Food was decent. Chicken nuggets for kids are dry and cold. Customer service was alright. I give 5 stars because the displays are amazing.

Great fun for the whole family especially on a rain day.
My wife and I are in our late 30s - early 40s with two young children between 6 and 10. It's a great place to entertain them as well as reminisce our youths. The amount of toys and games in display are great, you get to see a lot of items that remember you of your youth. Plus you can play so many games. We ate at the diner in house and the burger was very good. This year we got to tour the new addition which was great. They added on an aerial course which was awesome for our family of 4 to bond. Spent almost 7hrs there! Great day to spend a rainy (or sunny) day!

    So much fun!
We are a family of four with kids in their 20’s. We had such a great time! We spent most of our time upstairs in the HOF section rather than playing in the children’s museum part, although we didn’t skip it completely because it looked so fantastic. Someday I’ll have to return someday with young children to play. The toy history was fascinating with an incredible collection. The only disappointment was the inexcusably expensive gift shop. The selection was small but it ultimately didn’t matter since it was so overpriced. I generally like to support museums by shopping in their stores but I left empty handed, even though I was shopping for a child as well as a souvenir for me (sorry, $11 or $12 is too much for a refrigerator magnet). A mother of young children next to me wanted to buy a Trivial Pursuit refill pack. While willing to pay a certain premium, $65 is just insulting when it’s $18 on Amazon. I don’t think I saw a single purchaser, just browsers.

A fun trip to the past!
This museum was amazing!! I went with my husband and 11 year old son. If you’re into nostalgia and pop culture, this is the place for you!! The collection is amazing!! The video game area of the museum is a lot of fun and many opportunities to play games. We went on a Tuesday around noon and the upper floor where the video games and collectibles was not that crowded. There is a section with all the old school 80’s video games and you can play them for a token or one quarter. The lower level has an amazing interactive play section for younger children. So many cool things to do. This was a lot more crowded than the museum upper level. There is also a cafeteria and a cool diner you can eat in or I saw many people with packed lunches from home. The gift shop is small, but had some cute things. I would definitely go here again and check told say, it’s not just for families! N

Must visit if your in the Rochester area
We visit the museum at least once a year, this is our first time since all of the updates. The signage to the parking garage could be better but once we found it parking was easy and the new entry way is very nice. There was almost no wait to check in and we were on our way. The new fish exhibit where you color a fish and then watch it on screen was a hit, as was the new video game experience where you create your own avatar and collet “skills” by playing other games. I want to go back just for that. My one complaint was the food court I ordered a wrap without dressing, the girl at the register said I needed to tell them at the next window that I didn’t want ranch they said they were all pre made so they could not do that. So I had to go back to the register for a refund, a little frustrating that they couldn’t communicate better and left it to the customer. That being said my daughter ordered a pizza and my mom got a salad and they both ate the whole thing and said it was delicious.

A museum that will really appeal to the child in all of us.
Date of Visit: Fri July 7 Let your inner child loose, and play till your hearts content at the Strong Museum of play in Rochester NY. The Strong is dedicated to the art & joy of play. Everything you can think of related to toys, games, playthings, books, and childhood memories is here for you to enjoy. They have exhibits from the origin of toys, right up to the most recent toys. You will enjoy the trip down memory lane as you go through the many displays and interactive exhibits featuring the toys and toy brands you love. The Hall of fame features the best toys throughout history. Every year new toys are inducted and places on their hall of fame. There is a great video game section where you can enjoy playing all the video arcade games you have grown up with. Over the last few years they have renovated and expanded – and the new additions include a “level Up” interactive digital game world, “High Score” the video game history museum, and the Hasbro Game Park – which features giant versions of classic Hasbro games – Simon, Monopoly, candyland, Jenga, etc. The Museum is huge, and so much fun. The photo opportunities, the interactive exhibits, the giant characters, and the various play structures, will keep you busy for hours. Tips for visitors: There is so much to see and do here, you will want to plan several hours to spend here. There is a carrousel in the main entrance – and a diner to grab something to eat. There is plenty of parking in their parking garage. The museum is a big attraction for families with children, and on weekends and holidays – it will be packed with children running around. We visited on a Saturday and it was extremely busy. The last time we visited a few years ago – was a weekday afternoon – and it was not too bad. The Hasbro Game Park will be closed on Rainy days (esp if lightning) They take extra caution. Do not go late in the day – because it will take you longer to get through everything than you might think, and you wont want to miss out on things.

Fun for Children of All Ages
The Strong National Museum of Play is a fun place for children of all ages. There are so many interesting things to see and interactive areas for children throughout the beautiful museum. There are displays of toys ranging from the 1800s to the present day. It was like taking a step back in time and fun to see the toys that were popular when we were children as well as those that our own children played with. The Butterfly Garden was a bonus with lovely plants and the most beautiful butterflies. There is also a very nice gift shop, areas to get something to eat, and the cleanest restrooms!

Stay next door at the downtown Hampton if you can - you can just walk right over! We don't have kids, but we LOVED this museum anyhow. There is something for everyone, be they 1 or 101. Lots of history to look at, i.e. old dolls, board games, toy trucks etc., and lots of interactive play areas for children. If you have kids - go right at 10 am when they open, and be ready to stay until they close, as I'm sure your child will get into a play or craft activity and want to spend time at it. There are some over sized sculptures outside, such as a Monopoly scottie dog piece, and giant candy canes, for fun photos. Older kids & adults will love the reto-y pinball & video games - some are free, some need tokens (4 for $1). There is a free air hockey table, and small indoor mini-put area, too.

Didn't have grandsons with us, but loved it any how. Lots of nice displays for everyone and when we were there it was not busy at all, so we were able to enjoy many of the interactive displays without guilt of depriving any youngsters.

Excellent, fun museum for all ages. I went with my daughter and 3 grandkids, ages 2 to 8. Everyone had a wonderful time. We only wished we had more time, because there was so much to do that we didn't even see it all. You could easily spend 8 hours here and not run out of things to do.

we were two grandparents; two grandchildren and their mommy and we had a total day blast here! Yes, from opening to closing we enjoyed every bit of this marvelous creation....the kids were ages 4 and almost 7; the highlights of the day: ropes course with zipline(yes even Gramma went on it!!)l; the Sesame Street area; Reading with Barenstein Bears; the Carousel ride; even playing at the imitation Wegmans store; the temporary exhibit about Barbie; and especially the upstairs history of toys(parent ages up especially enjoyed this part)....there is a diner and a cafe ; we chose the cafe(a bit overpriced with a limited menu but good food)...save time for the Butterfly exhibit as well as the Hasbro land outside....

This place was AMAZING! Something for everyone, we thought we would go for a couple hours but we were there all day, from opening time to mid afternoon and would’ve stayed longer if we didn’t need to get back to our hotel.
My favorites were the outdoor board game park, the pinball room and the butterfly garden, and that was for me. My kids (5 and 7) had a BLAST!

This is our second visit to the Museum, with our grandson, and still think it’s a first rate facility. Easy to find, close parking in the garage, and reasonable pricing. Our 3 year old grandson absolutely loves this place. So much to see and do you won’t be disappointed.

Definitely a neighborhood beauty - that architecture and color scheme is the quintessential energy needed in the community!

For us the footprint was parochial. Why does Wegmans, ESL and Bill Grays need to have their brand name emblazoned on these interior neighborhood buildings? Is a museum dedicated to creativity and children’s imaginations really advertising three local companies? I mean I’m sure there were donations from all three, but the blatant showcasing of their logos and name is déclassé at the very least. Why not just have a plaque outlining these businesses and forego the branding?

The market is adorable, don’t get me wrong, and the theater is a nice idea. Not sure that this place needs a burger-joint-diner right when we walk in but there it is. How about some ‘healthy’ options? So off-putting to smell grease in this space. I couldn’t help but feel the Barbie exhibit was a crude display of advertising, looking more like department store marketing. And then when I arrived at the games

The other issue of contention is the fact that the carousel requires a ticket and the price is not included in the basic admission to the museum, jeez. Really? In a town where the carousel is iconic the museum charges another fee for a once-around twirl.

Perhaps over the years there will be changes to bring each section of the museum into the same sophistication as the architecture and historical exhibits. For me I felt the museum was divided into areas that were lacking a connection to the others. It seemed as if there were committees that wanted a definite look and feel for the educational and historical exhibits (how about that ropes course and Sesame Street? Or the inventors circle) but that same level of sophistication, class and creativity were left out where the short-term exhibits and the electronics play area (where it felt as if I walked into a Chuck E. Cheese or Dave & Busters) is concerned.

I’ll check it out again in a few years.

We have a family of 5 with a spread of 6 years from our oldest to youngest. All of our kids (pre teen to 6 year old) had a great time at "The Strong" as did my wife and I.

At a normal museum you spend your time walking from exhibit to exhibit reading and looking at old stuff. At the Strong you spend most if not all if your time playing and interacting with the exhibits.

If you are only going for a one day visit, make sure to plan your day, as we took 2 days and did not see 7 of the exhibits after 11 hours and will be going back to check out what we missed.
