The area

Neighborhood: Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.

A lovely place to go and just explore and enjoy
Margaret Island is a lovely place to visit and as a public area it is free entrance. It is obviously a place the people of Budapest also enjoy. A quiet place in the middle of Donau between Buda and Pest. You can easily walk around the island and explore places like the ruins of the old monastery or the art nouveau water tower and the Japanese garden. Afterward you can relax by the music water spring or have something to eat or drink. There are many places to choose between. If you like to run - there is an excel at trail around the Island. There is also thermal Spa a little Zoo ( we did not see this) and sun beds you can use free of charge. It is easy to go to the island either by bus, boat ,bike or simply to walk over the bridge😊I recommend reading a little bit about the Islands history before visiting- it makes it more interesting to see.

    Relaxing Visit 🪻🌷🌾
Lovely little park in the middle of Budapest. We explored the mini zoo, gardens and the ruins of the Dominican Convent. Worth spending an afternoon here to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

    Must experience in anyway
OK, it's not fair from me to write here anything, because I grew up here, in this green and healthy point of the smelly city. This time I brought my running shoes to run there, because I don't like running, but if I have to run, then only there! There's a small zoo for small children with a couple of animals and only one main road across, so walk, run, ride a bike or something else, go to swim to the sport swimming pool or to the beach kind of swimming pool and eat, party by night, more than recommended for everyone!

    Peaceful walk
Great place for a peaceful walk in the middle of Budapest. We got there via a Danube cruise. We did a loop around the island heading north from the boat stop, taking in the fountains and various towers and gardens and pools. We walked, but you can hire bikes/buggies, but they looked like hard work. Would recommend going to the island.

    The lungs of Budapest
I'm sorry, but I stole the title of my review from something I read on Google. I'm just getting that one out there before I start. When I planned my trip to Budapest I expected to visit the usual landmarks. I hadn't considered Margaret Island. I didn't really know anything about it until today. I had visited the parliament and walked north to find something to eat. I decided to eat on the big Island I could see on the map. That is when I realised what a magical place Margaret Island is. I started with the amazing fountain, staying for a second showing (glad I saw the GnR bit) and then wandered off to tour the island. I said magical. It really is. The gardens are beautiful, the ruins mysterious and I came across a lovely little church. The Japanese Garden, at the north end of the island was stunning. Right now I'm sat in the Light Garden waiting to see a light display and writing this. I should go for some dinner but I love this place. Food can wait. Need to see the light show at the fountain too. You know a place is great when food won't drag you away.

If you visit nowhere else in Budapest make sure to visit Margaret Island
If you visit nowhere else in Budapest make sure to visit Margaret Island. Easily one of my favorite parts of our trip. Beautiful, tranquil and peaceful, it's the perfect respite from the busy city. And in spite of the size there's so much to see and enjoy. We didn't really get the best of it going so late in the year since the gardens were beginning to fade but were so lovely even so. I can only imagine how spectacular they'd be in full view.

    Oasis of calm
Margaret island is a must visit when in Budapest. It reminded me of Central Park in New York, it’s so different from the rest of the city and so much to explore you could spend a whole day there walking round. The musical fountain is beautiful especially after dark. The number 26 bus goes from one end to the other and takes you back to the city but it is easily walked around for most.

Recommend rent transport if you want to visit whole Island
Island is quite big in a couple of hours we had only seen about a quarter of it though we did spend half our time in a well priced bar Steg. There are a variety of rental vehicles from golf carts to bikes would recommend one of these if you wanted to look around whole island. We spent a bit of a time with a quite impressive fountain that danced to music both classic and more modern.

One of the best parks ever
I have lived in Budapest for 2 years and this was my most favourite place to relax. It simply is one of the best parks ever. There is just everything you need - long walks in calm under the trees, musical fountain, Japanese gardens, rose gardens, spa, minizoo, ruins of old monastery. This place just cannot be described. It must be experienced! So peaceful in the middle of Danube. The trees and distance itself protect it from all the noise and pollution of the city. This must be, how heaven looks! Miss it so much since I relocated. Please, come and visit this magical place and stay respectful.

This is a good place for families or those wanting to do some exercise in the shade. There are plenty of options to hire scooter, bike, electric buggy, pedal buggy etc. on the expensive option but good option if you want to explore the whole island.
It's very shady with pretty gardens & has a couple of pool/thermal pool complexes which is great for kids (slides, water park, fountains etc). Very busy, lots of kids. Wasn't really our thing but see it would be great for families. There is also a small zoo. Plenty of food kiosk types places for icecream, burgers, grills etc but no fine dining option or more upscale type eateries.
For me it is best to escape heat of city with shade & great option to exercise.

Gorgeous parks and gardens. Easily accessible by the tram 4-6 or can walk across the bridge to Tram 2 which runs along the Danube. Spent a good couple of hours here walking, enjoying the gardens and the musical fountain.

I visit Margit Sziget quite a bit but this time spent a few hours in the Japanese Garden at the north of the island.
It’s easy to get there if you hop on the 26 bus from Nyugati station as it takes you right across the island to the top end where the gardens sit quietly away from the road.
There’s a few pond, a small bridge, quiet corners with statues and a waterfall. The plants and trees are stylish and there’s lots of small quiet areas to sit and read or just enjoy the sun.
There’s lots of birds and at the ponds there are dragonflies, turtles, coy carp and I also saw a huge snail.

Lovely and peaceful plus lots to see and explore. This is a really nice park. The bikes and little cars looked like great fun and there are plenty of shady patches to relax. We enjoyed exploring the ruins of the nunnery and church and hearing the Hungarian music at the musical fountain. We were dropped off as part of a river cruise then picked up again which worked brilliantly.

We hired a tandem to explore Margaret Island. It was one where you pay at the end and we kept to an hour. It was an easy cycle and we stopped to walk round the small Japanese garden. We didn’t explore the zoo area, just enjoyed the views from the island and found some welcome shade as it was a hot day. There’s places to eat/drink but you’ll need change for the toilets.

Well worth the visit, but you don’t need to book a trip, you can walk n to the island from the middle of one of the bridges, it’s quite a big island, but we went on a “dolly” train round it for 5eurios tho you can hire electric cars and bikes, there’s a few places to eat/but snacks, and the amazing musical fountain!

Used red hop on hop off bus to get to Margaret Island huge gardens especially rose garden and Japanese garden fantastic lakes and small zoo plenty of children’s playground swings slides and roundabout. Picnic areas we spent three hours but didn’t see all of the Island highly recommend a visit. It’s free plenty of food and drink outlets to sit and relax. Plenty of music really worth a visit highly recommend.

Walked out to the island along the river. This was a pleasant journey and then walked around the Island. You can take No 2 tram, 2B and 23. The island has pleasant walking and some monastery ruins. Its pleasant enough walking through the wooded areas, and there is an hotel where you can drink on the terrace. Enjoyable but nothing outstanding....much of the Island is geared to sporting activities and fast food rather than nice eating places.

I really lovely open space in the heart of Budapest and accessed off the bridge. Lots of open space, sports facilities, running routes and also food spots and water sports. Really pretty to walk around and can get down to the river edge as well.

We pottered around here and watched the musical fountain. I can’t fault it but can’t think of anything exciting enough to push it to 5 stars.
