Detailed Reviews
This old, but moderately maintained cottage is located along a bay on the Mangochi district lakeshore. It is about 30Kms from the Boma. Upon arrival guests are welcomed by local staff who take care of the place. There are 5 bedrooms in the main house and two bedrooms in the side cottage. Each room varies in size and and number of beds. The common area and rooms are neat with bedding and towels provided in the bedrooms for guests. The kitchen is large and somewhat detached, or rather is an extension from the main house. There are 2 fridges available to store food (this is a self-catering venue), although the one fridge could be upgraded as it does not properly close. The plates and utensils are decent although large coffee mugs could be provided particularly because drinking coffee out of tea cups is not very satisfying. The cottage has a swimming pool which is lovely as swimming in the lake is not very advisable due to the risks of acquiring schistosomiasis or worse, being eaten by a crocodile.
The staff looking after guests could be trained to be more attentive and proactive to anticipating and meeting guests needs. However, and overall, it is a decent place to spend a weekend.

I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. It is very old and run down, and in places quite dirty. The house wasn't ready when we arrived at 4pm to checkin, so we had to wait for the staff to clean it. The towels they provided were stained and dirty, as were the beds. There wasn't hot water in 2 of the bedrooms. Full of mosquitos.
The locals were using the beach to wash there clothes all day, and they would come up to the pool and stare at us all day, so it wasn't very private.
Also the night staff were three old men, who were very creepy and smoked, shouted and slept on the sun lounges all night which was very disruptive.

The cottages are well located and there are many rooms for large groups. The views are breathtaking. However, the facilities could certainly be improved. The large cottage had broken windows and we found bats in the rooms. We had lizards, frogs and cockroaches in the cottages. The kitchen staff did nothing to keep the place clean and very lazy. We have hired several other cottages at the lake over the years and have found the Conforzi staff to be the worst ever! There is no place to keep your valuables. One of our group had money stolen from the back room.
We would only stay there again if above issues are rectified.

Terrible. Mosquito infested nightmare. Place is rundown. Nowhere near to pictures. Low quality bedding. This place had no blankets, mosquito nets filthy and stained, overall quite dirty. Spider webs everywhere. The staff would chat loudly all night, no consideration for guests. Staff not friendly and not so helpful either. Staff play music in their staff quarters at odd hours of the morning. Water in the pool was literally green, full of leaves and insects. Absolute Waste of money

I have stayed in Conforzi house several times and I find in this house the beauty of an historical old house. The location is stunning. There are a lot of rooms and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The beach is private and well kept by staff and I always enjoy to sit under the shadow of 2 majestic baobab which are located in the garden or under a huge ficus. The lake view is so nice and Boadzulu island is just in front. Squirrels, fish eagles and hammer kops are only few of the wildlife encounters of the area. Now there is a swimming pool and I cannot wait to my next stay!

The place is close to Nkapola/makokola, and is a huge property. The private beach is gigantic and the garden is full of big trees. We spent the long weekend with friends and family at the pool. The staff helped us buy fish and we had a bbq next to the beach. Ilaria gave us this guy's number who took us to Boadzulu island national park (in front of the house) by boat ride 15 minutes away, we had a great swim and saw fisheagles fishing. The main house is a big colonial house. We had a great stay and will definitely come back for new years as you can really pack this place up. It is a dive into old malawi full of nature.
