Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A brilliant little gem, well worth the stop and time to understand not just the gold mining history, and future, but a real treasure trove of knowledge, including the guide who was fantastic!

Arrived just on on the Museums opening time to be met with a very warm welcome.
This museum has a great range of exhibits, not all behind glass screens or windows so makes it feel very much alive.
The curator (John?) after a period took a group of us up to the stamping battery and once the water was flowing had both the stamping battery and water powered generator operating. Great to watch.
His knowledge of the mining industry and local history was a credit to the Museum.

You could easily miss this hidden gem as you head out of Reefton but it is well a stop. It is chock full of curiosities that have been donated by locals over the years. We were lucky enough to be the only visitors at the time and received a personal guided tour. The curator is obviously passionate about the local history and was a wealth of knowledge. We need more places like this to preserve the small town history. The admission fee is a small price to pay to contribute the running of the museum.

Enjoyed a very interesting visit to this museum. It is stacked with local history. The curator was able to explain every item and gave a lot of very interesting local history and stories. Well worth a stop.

This is a truly delightful museum and the curator is knowledgeable and obliging. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon hoping to see the gold battery in action. We were told that the person who normally runs it was unable to be there that day however the curator was happy to turn it on for us. This is well worth seeing, as is the museum itself. Do not expect sophisticated displays, however it contains many items and information about the local area and its people. It certainly is more tactile than most museums that you visit. Do take the time to visit this wonderful museum just outisde of Reefton.

Full of interesting knick knacks. I especially enjoyed playing the organ. It was fun I would go back just so I could play the organ.

This museum is run by friendly volunteers. It’s a touch and feel place with quite good resources in the back room. Don’t expect professional displays but a good poke round.

Great curator, very informative and far more interesting in person than looking on the internet. If I have had more time I would have stayed longer.
