What a lovely city and brilliant guide. The itinerary was carefully planned and included incredible activities. Forests and fields of fungi! Thankyou to the Goddess of Mars for delicious mushroom soup with bread, amazing butter cookies and Cockta, of course. Thankyou to the woman climbing the spiral staircase to find the perfect map that was lost and then found again. From picking us up in our hotel in Ljubljana, through truffle hunting with Sara and her labrador, Nala, to wine tasting on top of a hill with a view of the Gulf of Trieste, everything about our tour was organised seamlessly and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Slovenia. Lado was not only an expert about the region's culinary culture, but also indefatigably enthusiastic, friendly and thoughtful.

This tour allowed me to experience the tradition of foraging in Slovenia. We got an early start to meditate in the ancient trunk of a linden tree before watching the sunrise from a hilltop overlooking cloud-covered Ljubljana. Be prepared with hiking shoes for your trek through the forest. This was the season for mushroom hunting. Our guide, Lado, identified each mushroom we discovered, explaining which ones were harmful and which were healthy. He led the tour with just the right blend of information and humor. When our baskets were full, we all pitched in to slice the mushrooms and cook up a feast. Highly recommend this mindful excursion to a secret spot in a beautiful Slovenian forest. Unforgettable!

We were a small of group of 3 friends that decided on Slovenia at the last minute. As we had nothing planned, we completely lucked out and got Lado as our private tour guide for 2 full days (we booked one but then had such a great time, we added a second day). He was super knowledgeable about everything we wanted to see and suggested things we didn't know about. We would recommend anyone coming to Slovenia to jump on booking with Lado right away as he was flexible with times, honest with what was worth seeing and not, knew all the BEST places to eat and drink. We wished we hadn't pre-booked dinners because he had so many more options we didn't know about. Lado is very personable, super friendly and has a great attitude. He took pictures of us throughout the whole thing so we have tons with all three of us in them. We three came home with plans to bring our families back and to book with Lado again! The short of it- BEFORE I met Lado: That plate is mine- no mushrooms! YOU eat the mushrooms yourself! AFTER I met Lado: Oh… can I try that one too?! (Picture a look of curiosity, surprise and bliss) The slightly longer of it- Rather than talking you through the experience step by step (especially since these adventures are uniquely planned depending on the season, weather, group members’ needs etc.) I’ll hash out some thoughts pertaining to the entire day: 1. Lado is incredibly warm and inviting. He is creative and organized- and he loves playful surprises (there was a local secret he shared with us just before sunrise on this particular trip. I shan't disclose it here, but you’ll be able to see it in the mini documentary once it comes out). 2. Lado is amazingly in tune with nature and with people. He has a joy and a sense of humor that are contagious. Throughout the day I felt so taken care of- and I know my fellow mushroom hunters felt the same. 3. One of the best parts- mushroom hunting is only ONE of the things you can do with Lado through Lifetime Experience! 4. Mushroom foraging (on one’s own) isn’t something one picks up in a day. Having Lado’s expertise and hands-on instruction was invaluable. Lado provided a lot of helpful guidance, but I would not dream of going without an expert like him! I felt safe and empowered at the same time. 5. I loved the stories and explanations Lado shared, bringing history and science alive. This was a holistic and invigorating experience that touched all senses and spoke to mind, body, and soul. Thank you, Lado!

My friend and I had a wonderful visit with Sarah and her dog Liza. She was a charismatic guide with a great sense of humor. The meal was delicious and the demonstration was authentic and educational. We loved supporting these local epicureans.

My husband and I had truly lifetime experiences with Lado, both in group and private tours. The truffle hunting tour is an all day delight. It includes a truffle hunt with a personable and informative truffle hunter and her gentle truffle hunting dog, a tasting tour of a local winery and their vineyards, lunch at the winery with the friendly owners, with delicious Slovenian smoked ham, sausages, and cheese starter plates, refreshing elderberry flower juice and the exquisite wines of the site, followed by group preparation of an out- of -this -world delicious pasta dish, with an astonishing quantity of truffles. All located on a verdant hillside, with a panorama view of the valley below and the opportunity to meet other friendly folks from all over the world (South Africa and Germany on our tour). What a perfect day! We also did forest tours with Lado, which were the highlight of our trip, as forest lovers. We hiked the pristine pine forest of Pokjluka, in the foothills of the Julian Alps, a cathedral of tall pines, aplendor in moss, mushrooms, small blueberry bushes, alpine flowers and tiny frogs. After our hike we enjoyed a sumptuous feast at a nearby restaurant that serves Slovenian food and wild game. We also hiked with Lado in the rolling meadow trails and awesomely healthy mixed pine and deciduous forests near Katarina and St Jacob, with a view of Ljubljana in the valley below, as well as the riverside forest of Iska Vas, near Ljubljana. Lado's knowledge of and delight in the flowering herbs, trees, and mushrooms will become your delight , as you experience the majesty and magic of vibrantly healthy forest ecosystems with him. If you go in late summer or early fall, you may be lucky enough to pick and savor the most delicious chanterelles and porcini mushrooms of Europe. Whatever tour you choose with SLOVEenia Eat and Lado you can be sure of a truly memorable adventure in nature, fascinating conversation , and a delicious ending at the best restaurant in the area. We so are looking forward to future tours with him, including a day as a beekeeper!

Delightful experience... we had a lovely time with Sara and Nania and Lisa the truffle hunting dog. The wines and jams were yummy and the truffle pasta was delicious.... just a great day !

We have nothing but praise & gratitude to Lado for making our experiences in Slovenia so amazing. It was the best 3 days of our short Slovenia experience & we cant wait to be back to explore more. From truffle hunting experience, to the requisite Postojna cave & Bled lake & castle & best of all, a surprise hiking trails which you can always Lado to bring you too! We had amazing experience foraging for mushroom, chestnut, raspberries etc. Best of all, there is our little version of 'forest bathing' & lado is a 'tree whisperer' too Go on an adventure with Lado & you won't regret it! Truly authentic experience of slovenian hospitality!

We had a great time on our truffle tour! Sara was a fantastic guide (as was Lisa the truffle dog) who spoke perfect English. We learned a lot on our “hunt”, and our truffle pasta lunch was delicious. Nada, an older woman who welcomed us into her home, was wonderful and we enjoyed her cozy space, wine and homemade food. Overall, this tour exceeded expectations.

Lado so generously shared with us the beauty & authentic experiences of Slovenia. We loved meeting his talented friends who took us truffle hunting with their amazingly sweet & sharp truffle hunting dog. It was all located very close to the winery property, and easy to navigate. The property had a view that was like a postcard- but more breathtaking. On the property was the sweetest family that owned the vineyard & winery where we spent the day. The vineyard was fragrant, maintained, and filled with grapes & rich history. We learned how to prepare the bounty of truffles the sweet dog spotted & dug up and got to participate in each step! The truffle pasta & wine from the day’s harvest was one of the freshest, tastiest, & most delightful culinary experiences of my life! Lado has an uncanny ability for bringing together wonderful people in extraordinary places. If you ever are so lucky as to go to Slovenia, you must book this experience, it truly is one for the story books!

It doesn't get any better than a day with Lado and his friends - truffle hunting and eating! YUM....wine tasting... We travel the world and take select tours and this was up there with the best! Lado is so accommodating to your personal interests and he and his friends teach you about Slovenia, wines, truffles...all along the way. Totally awesome! Thank you Lado and friends!

Wow..... oh my heaven's what an amazing day we had yesterday. Thank you. Attention to detail from before the adventure in the booking right thought to follow up with pictures and information the day after our private tour, exceptional team service . Every part of the day was better than the last. From the cave tour to the end of the night with the brand new aprons it was all fabulous. Tina you are a beautiful and intelligent woman who brought information and fun to our day thank you. The pictures are stunning especially the one of Paul who so stepped outside of his comfort zone to slide down the mountain coaster. The swim in the crystal waters of lake Bled overlooking the castle and hearing the church bells on the island is one that I will keep in my brain for when I need a peaceful mindfulness moment in this crazy busy world of ours. Over the top! Outstanding! Bravo! Lado, Sara, the friendly staff treated you like family in the most charming area of Istria outside of Koper, Slovenia. Liza, the most lovable truffle hunting dog, is a real treat to watch. The food and experience is one you will never forget!
