A wonderful way to learn about japanese culture through a private cooking class
We spent a wonderful moment with Yoko! She is very nice and welcoming and made us feel very confortable at her home. The dishes were quite easy to do with their explanations and very good. We will definitely try to make them again at home. Plus, she gave us many tips (places to go for eating, shopping and visiting in Osaka and elsewhere in Japan). It was definitely one of our best experiences on Japan. Thank you so much!

Last minute booking, very quick response, excellent quality and explanation - would highly recommend!
Booked a cooking lesson (as a couple) last minute, due to other plans being cancelled and Yoko responded and approved right away. The class was great and she explained a lot, giving many recommendations and tailoring the meal to what we wanted (she even explained how to make dishes that take a longer period, which we couldn't do in the time frame). We left with a lot of useful knowledge and the ability to make some of our favorite dishes from Japan at home. Was great to chat about interests, cities, travel plans and ideas, in addition to enjoying a great meal. Would highly recommend!!

      Must do while visiting Osaka!
This was one of the best experiences during our travel in Japan. The food is easy to cook and soooo good! We will make this at home again and think of this beautiful day. Yuko was a joy to cook with, giving us lots of Informationen about the ingredients and how to replace them if needed. I am gluten and diary free and even though that can make cooking a little more different and harder sometimes Yuko changed the recepies so i can enjoy them too!

      Brilliant, fun and informative
Our cooking class with Yoko was fantastic- one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. She showed us the local shrine on the walk to our house and was generous and informative with her comprehensive knowledge of Japanese food and culinary traditions. The four of us (parents plus two teenagers) loved the class and then eating the results (goyza and okononmiaki) in her home. Highly recommended.

      Incredible experience!
Yoshiko was a joy to cook with! She was very thorough and well-spoken in her explanations and demonstrations (her English is excellent) and she was incredibly friendly and hospitable. We prepared the "Mother's Taste" lunch menu and it was delicious! She gave cultural context and explanations for the ingredients and each dish was authentic and very accessible. Even if you are a more inexperienced cook, you'll be able to make these dishes. We loved our experience and would recommend it to anyone who would like to have a traditional Japanese meal and enjoy the company of a very kind Japanese host.

      BEST FOOD EVER❤️❤️❤️🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
Yoko is awesome! My husband and I booked this for Christmas evening. Yoko shopped with us and was very patient with us as we (husband and I) squabbled in the supermarket about our differing food preferences. The evening was filled with preparing gyoza, okinamiyaki, and sukiyaki. Yoko taught us how to prepare each dish and we learned great techniques. Yoko is very knowledgeable and a true foodie! A must in this food haven!

      Okonomyaki
A visit with Yoko will leave will a wonderful sense of Japanese culture and cuisine, all the whys and wherefores answered. Yoko shared all her cooking secrets , and her love of food and culture, gave us a wonderful insight into living in Kyoto. We walked her Neighborhood, learnt the delicate art of egg roll, the delicious details of a truly memorable okonomyaki that I’ll definitely be making at home! It was my friends first traveling Spoon and I’m sure it won’t be her last!

      Good techniques
My friends and I arranged a class with Yoko during our recent visit to Osaka. We asked to learn the seasonal dishes - and being winter - seafood was in abundance. Yoko started the class by explaining what the 5 different tastes of food are - sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. Japanese food concentrates a lot on umami. We learnt the basics of making miso stock with konbu and dashi. The best konbu comes from the seas off Hokkaido - cold waters. We also learnt how to cut vegetables for the pickle as well as make a simple tofu salad with sesame dressing. The main dish is an Osaka speciality - seafood okomomiyaki. Skill is needed to flip this omelette! We also tried our hand at making tamago - Japanese omelette. After the food preparation - it was then time to eat. Simple yet delicious food. Yoko answered our many questions on food prep and techniques, as well as advised us where to buy ingredients and places to eat in Osaka, as well as Kyoto - which we visited the next day. Yoko was very friendly and willing to share her passion for the food of Osaka with us. It was an enjoyable morning and we will definitely be trying out what we learnt when we get home.

      Great cooking and teaching
Yoko prepared well and we had a good email discussion prior on what to cook. During the day, she showed interesting techniques as well as telling about the theory, history and culture associated with the cooking. All in all a great experience!

My partner and I had a great time cooking with Yoshiko. Yoshiko explained the recipes we were going to cook and gave a print out for us so we could take it home. Yoshiko accommodated our dietary needs preparing a fish (no meat) bento. Overall, we had a great time and she is a wonderful person. Would highly recommend.

What an amazing experience! This was by far my Wife and I's favorite experience in Japan. It was awesome to learn how to make some authentic Japanese dishes and to learn about some of the history behind them. I highly recommend this experience for anyone visiting the Osaka area.

It was a real privilege to be taken to the home of such a welcoming host. Yoshiko introduced us to some Japanese staples such as dashi stock and different types of seasoning sauces commonly used in the cuisine. We then prepared Japanese rolled omelette, salads and Okonomiyake and sat down to eat at her table with a glass of plum wine! It was all delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We would highly recommend it to other travellers.

Wow, I have met a lot of wonderful people in my life, but Yoshiko is something different. Her title says it all "Heart-Warming" Japanese in home cooking lesson with a local mother. If you want an experience of a lifetime this is it. If you want to learn more about the Japanese culture this is it. Her home is a wonderful oasis in an otherwise crazy hectic Osaka, and Yoshiko's desire to bring you an amazing experience is amazing. She's so wonderful, thoughtful and just a good person all around. She has so much knowledge to share, and she's willing to share it over your experience of cooking with her! Her house is cute and quaint, her food is delicious with fresh ingredients, and her stories are beautiful and heart warming.

Do yourself a favor and book this experience. Its worth it and it will leave you amazed.

My husband and I love doing cooking classes on our travels. I have done at least a dozen in different countries around the world and Yoshiko’s class was wonderful! She was so kind and a great teacher. The food was wonderful and chatting with Yoshiko and learning about the Japanese culture was one of our favorite parts of our trip. We did the Mothers Taste and we loved the teriyaki chicken, cucumber/spinach/kiwi salad and tofu gratin (a Yoshiko original!). Yoshiko taught us all about the ingredients and made sure we were ready to make these recipes on our own. Thank you, Yoshiko!

Had a wonderful evening cooking with Yoshiko! She's very warm and welcoming, and as a foreigner on a holiday, it was nice to feel welcomed into a Japanese home! We made okonomiyaki, and several Japanese sides! Had so much fun! It was also nice that Yoshiko speaks English very well!
