Beautiful location fabulous staff

Reviewed 4 weeks ago
The best staff who look after you very well nothing is too much trouble especially Eric on reception plus the fantastic staff at Lima you made our anniversary meal extra special Manuel make us laugh and smile they decorate our table every visit with rose petals and hearts. The staff make this hotel great, it is easy to look past the tired rooms …there are renovations taking places.
The food was great and there was something to suit everyone and unlike a lot of all inclusive hotels you don’t have to book in advance for a table at any of the speciality restaurants and there’s no limit as to the number of visits you can make.
If you are looking for a beautiful destination that’s relaxing and chilled out look no further. It was our 3rd visit and we will be back.

As this was my first all-inclusive experience I am very glad I chose Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort. From booking, to transportation to and from the resort to check-out everything was a seamless process. I was exceptionally pleased with the wellness aspect including the daily yoga classes and meditation. The Rodizio Steakhouse was phenomenal, and the daily buffet provided a variety of food options.

One hiccup was in that the air conditioner in my room was not working, it was hot, like 88 degrees F hot. After some dialogue with the front desk I was eventually moved and upgraded to accommodate the broken air conditioner. Ivania, Pedro, and Enrique at the front desk were exceptionally helpful in making this accommodation happen.

The ease of taking the Collectivo into Tulum and PDC was a huge plus.

AKUMAL BAY BEACH AND WELLNESS RESORT

This was my second time at this resort and it was even better than the first time. I have only positive comments to make about this place, in fact it is definitely my favourite place to visit.

The rooms: Clean, lots of closet space, nice big shower and the honey based shampoo and body soap are amazing. There is a coffee pot in the room and the refrigerator is stocked daily with beer, soft drinks, water and snacks. A nice big wall mounted television that I only put on at night when in bed, and a beautiful balcony with an ocean view and a jacuzzi (on every balcony). Perfection.

The buffet: Great food every day without fail. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is something for everyone. And the Mexican food in the buffet is great.

The A La Carte Restaurants: There are 4 a la cartes: Mexican, Peruvian, Brazilian, and International. All 4 restaurants are fine dining, amazing choices beautifully plated and all delicious.

The beach: Beautiful turquoise beach, no seaweed while we were there. The beach is a little rocky but you can find areas free of rocks and the snorkelling is amazing! There is coral reef very close to the hotel where you can see all kinds of fish, turtles and manta rays.

Activities: Paddleboard for beginners and advanced, yoga classes all day, painting, Spanish classes, and dance classes by the amazing Salsa teacher, Adiel!! Snorkelling equipment can be borrowed for one hour at no charge.

The Staff: I cannot say enough about the staff, they are all amazing. You feel at home, everyone is welcoming and always helpful. I would like to thank each one of them for their service and for going above and beyond:
Jose who received us with a smile when we arrived from the airport
Erik who welcomed us when we got to the lobby and offered us any help we might need during our stay
Ivania who checked us in with a smile and gave all the information we needed
Saul, our housekeeper who did an excellent job keeping our room clean
Victoria and Marissa who served us drinks on the beach, so kind and friendly
Alejandro, the bartender at the snackbar who made the best Margarita on the rocks
Oliver and Jose, the waiters and Holi the manager at K’ooben restaurant wow professional and first class service
Miguel, the waiter at Lima restaurant, excellent service and very friendly person, made us laugh
Juan-Carlos, Otilio, Carlos, Karla, and Alejandro buffet waiters excellent service and all wonderful people who made us feel at home and got to know us
Daniela, manager buffet what a wonderful person I cannot say enough about her kindness and great attitude
Hector, manager buffet, excellent service always making sure guests are happy
Raymond C, the piano man. This is an incredible artist, I am a top fan since the first visit to Akumal.. He made the evenings a pure delight with his music and songs, I always made sure I got a table right beside him so I could enjoy every minute and right up close.
Adiel, animator, amazing dance teacher and just great personality, he makes sure that everyone is having fun at the lobby bar. And boy, can he Salsa!
Alejandro the turtle teacher, he gives an amazing class on turtles not to be missed
Dani, who is in charge of making sure everyone has beach towels. What a wonderful person, so friendly and kind.
And finally German, the manager. He has a big personality, very funny, friendly and an all around great guy who makes sure everything is running smoothly. He is on top of it all.

I cannot wait to be back at this place, I will definitely be going back at least once a year, maybe more if I am able!!!

Room tip: Be sure to have a Spanish coffee at the lobby bar and don’t miss the tequila tasting!

Lovely resort, friendly staff and exciting snorkeling right from the beach (honestly the main reason why we came back there!!). Spotted eagle rays, Giant turtles, stingrays, French Angelfish, Queen and more!!! PARADISE!!! We will be posted later our video on YouTube: Passionate snorkeling.
Feeling a bit sad as the beach grew rockier, a lot of seaweed... Bring your water shoes! No mosquito!!! Great Wi-Fi signal was everywhere!
Room (all of the rooms with ocean view): we stayed in 1122, spacious and spotless! Very comfortable bed, quiet AC, bottles of water refilled daily.
Restaurants: In June, there was no line at the restaurant. We loved Gourmet and Lima! Delicious food and excellent service! The buffet restaurant always had plenty of delicious food!
Our special appreciation for great service to Araceli at Rodizio/ Lima
At Buffet: Ramiro, Daniela, Alejando, Jesus, Manuel, William, Pedro.
Rosalinda at the bar on the beach
    Daniela at reception
On Saturday evening, there was a lovely presentaion of delicious chocolate and champagne!
Entertainment: Every night lobby bar had a live music.
We had a great time and plan to return next year!
    Hasta la vista!

I came here from June 2-9 to celebrate my birthday. We choose this resort because of the penthouse suite ,food reviews & photos of the beach. Let me clarify that the staff here are very kind , hardworking , FRIENDLY people & my issues i had here were based off of how management runs this resort. Upon arrival we were told check in was at 3 pm that we can hang out around the resort until then. Mind you we had come from Toronto so we had on a sweater & jogging pants. Upon arrival we noticed how HOT
The resort was but was understanding because after all its mexico. We did not enjoy having to wait 3 hours for check in as we started sweating alot. We could not wait to get into our room that is suppose to have AC. We stayed in building 1 room 1312. Upon entering we noticed our room was hot but didnt pay too much attention to it as we were looking around at our gorgeous room. I also noticed the fridge was not cold which is upsetting because i love my cold water! The room was nice , could use a full body mirror and the toilets should be cleanes during every house keeping call as it wasnt. We called about our ac , they sent matience up who thought he fixed it and told us wait 1 hr it will get cooler but didnt. It was late so we waited until the next day . We did not enjoy our sleep as we kept twisting and turning due to the heat in the room & not cold fridge. Next day maitence came again and promised the same thing but still didnt work , the 3rd time another matience guy came and still didnt work. Reception told me that the ac is controlled on an app so i asked who controls the app and they had no clue. Our room was at 28°c. When ever we left the room we walked past other rooms being cleaned and could feel how cold their ac was so this was upsetting to us for sure. They also charge extra if you order drinks to your room which i think is crazy considreing we got the penthouse suite and that should have been included. The elevator is very very VERY small & hot so if you have a fear of getting stuck just take the stairs because it would be a bad experience if that happened to anyone. Beach couldnt be used , the beds are WAY to close together so you get zero privacy. We used out jacuzzi most of the time with cold water so that was really nice. The staff here are so hardworking anf sweet the management should get them some kind of ac or something because i know the resort is opened out. There were no bugs which was a WIN because last year in cuba i was swollen from bug bites. Bed was comfy , smart tv was useful & room service was good. If you want to travel , rent a car and pay the taxi once to take you to the rental company because the taxi charges a crazy amount. A 4 min ride to a local food shack to go and come was $60 usd.. the items in the gift shop are also overly priced. A dress i would pay $10 for sells for $40 usd. Overall we enjoyed what we could and loved the staff but i blame management for the downgrade of this resort.

Our favorite place in the world to vacation not only because of the beautiful beach, but the people. Germain and Jesus make sure that we had everything we needed and wanted during the day. We do love Jesus like family and every time we come back he welcomes us like a long time friend. Germain made my adult children feel so comfortable and had them laughing all day long. Manuel in the Lima restaurant totally got our family’s humor and played along every time we went to the restaurant or even walked by. Holi has been a staple in the restaurants since we started going to Akumal ten years ago and she remembers us and her smile and kind character always shines through. Being a Fidelity member is so important to us and Zaisha totally understood that and made sure that we were happy and taken care of before she went on a much needed vacation herself.

Congratulations Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort, we introduced our adult children to you this year and you did not disappoint!

The only negatives are the stomach issues and the Sargasm Seaweed. I sure wish we American’s could visit without getting the “Mexican Flu”. The Sargasm - boy do you try everything you can to clean it up. I will forever applaud and give a huge smile to the workers as they drive by cleaning up that “devil’s lettuce”.
