We were there in February 2020. Based on the fantastic reviews particularly with snorkeling, we choose Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort. It lived up to those reviews.
Pros:
1. Best snorkeling we experienced in Mexico – saw colorful fish, reefs, stingrays and turtles
2. Lots of activities: yoga, paddle boarding, water aerobics, painting, beach volleyball, meditation, etc.
3. Great staff constantly cleaning and up keeping both the rooms and common grounds
4. Friendly, efficient, excellent staff, particularly Karlos Olarte – Butler, Aracelli – hostess at Rodizo Restaurant, Carlos and Alejandro Casanova at the buffet, the younger man who was our paddle boarding guide, room service was excellent!

The rooms’ walls were a bit thin. We could hear the rooms above and around us and also the music across the resort. Suggest bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
Tip: When booking a room: Building 2 is close to the action – main pool, lobby, etc., building 1 is a bit further with buildings 3 and 4 in a quieter section.
Overall it was a fabulous, dreamy, excellent vacation. We not only encountered friendly staff but so many friendly, interesting people from around the world. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

We were there in February 2020. We are very experienced travelers and this had to be one of the best vacations we ever had. The staff are by far some of the finest we have encountered. Not just a few but all of them. Our room was unbelievable. Roof top deck, with hot tub. Every night we listened to the last set of what was great music from a variety of bands. Accompanied by a glass of wine and a Lush bath bomb.
The food was absolutely great .Nice buffet for breakfast and lunch ,lots of options all well prepared. The specialty restaurants all were absolutely above and beyond,not only for the quality of the food but the kindness and professionalism of the waiters and support staff.
The beach was spectacular. We saw turtles, rays, barracuda, and tons of fish. Clean and inviting water. The beach service and staff were incredible and particular Sal, the Beach manager, who daily made sure everything was good for everyone. We absolutely loved the beach sushi bar , the bartenders were fantastic and in particular Liliana, who prepared the sushi. A beautiful, friendly and tireless worker. What a gem !

We met many wonderful people which seemed to be a product of such a great environment.

Just an absolutely wonderful 13 days. We are scheduled back near the end of October with friends. Looking forward to another fabulous experience.
