Our Philosophy of ‘Liberated Cooking’ Welcome to Saffron - the multi award-winning home of authentic Asian dining. Our food is based on traditional recipes from Bangladesh and Nepal but given a modern makeover to meet the demands of 21st century diners. Glad to see the restaurant open again and better than ever

Missed this restaurant whilst it was on compulsory lock down but glad to it open again and visited to take advantage of the goverment incentive scheme. The restaurant boasted less tables than usual which put any anxiety I had regarding social distancing to rest. The food we ordered was as good as it always was and the service was superb and we must thank our waiter Rana for a a warm and entertaining night, he always welcomes us like old friends and perhaps we are as we have pstronised this gem of a restaurant for many many years. It was nice also to have the discount being half price or the maximum £10 off every little helps, Although the restaurant is not the cheapest it is certainly fine dine and very reasonably priced for the more than generous portions served in this immaculately presented restaurant. Will return again very shortly.

Gorgeous take away

Gorgeous take away tonight from Saffron. Absolutely delicious. I have eaten here a few times in the restaurant and the staff are lovely. Tonight we decided to try their take away as they are currently offering a 50% discount to teachers with ID. The staff are friendly and chatty and adhering to Covid rules. The takeaway was on time, good value and delicious! Everything was fresh, the starters were very tasty and freshly made. The chicken was tender and all the sauces gorgeous. Thank you. Would definitely recommend.

Tastiest Indian Restaurant in Northampton

Took my girlfriend here for our first date. From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable throughout. The waiter helped us with the comprehensive menu as we nearly ordered a curry which was ‘dry’. We then opted for their most popular dish which had a very tasty rich sauce. We will definitely be returning soon. On another note, we were overwhelmed by the restaurants fabulous décor!!!

Stupidly overpriced, would NOT recommend to anyone!

Myself and my family (4 of us) visited this restaurant as we saw it advertised that they were extending the eat out to help out scheme where they discounted the bill for £10 per person, so since there was 4 of us this was £40, amazing we thought! Oh how we were wrong... But lets start at the beginning, we had booked a table for 7:30 yet on arrival we were kept waiting OUTSIDE for 10/15 minutes in the rain and cold weather because they were "putting the table together". Not impressed. Entering the restaurant we could see they hadn't done much to ensure social distancing as tables were crammed together but we did see that some, NOT ALL waiters were equipped with masks, those who did have masks only wore them incorrectly anyways. But lets move on. The food is not your typical Indian, quite bland and lightly flavoured. That said the portions were of a decent size however I prefer quality over quantity. I ordered 2 sharing platters, 3 mains, 2 rice, 4 naan, 1 bottle of Shiraz and 2 beers. The most flavoured dish we got was the side of rice, even the naan bread was rock solid and tasteless. This totalled up to an extortionate £155, minus the eat out to help out scheme the bill still came unto £113, on closer inspection of the bill I could see that the prices had been over flatted but wait for it...there was a hidden service charge of £13.50 which we were told was mandatory!! Only gave this 1 star as there is no option to give none. Will definitely not be going back and wanted to worn other people, beware of this big SCAM!

Nice food but too pricy

I’ve been here a few times and the food has always been nice. However the prices have gone up allot recently and to make things worse, the restaurant now adds a compulsory 10% service charge to the bill (this is new) The service is average at best. Paying £20 for a standard curry with rice seems over the top to me, add on top any drinks and starters and you’re looking at a huge bill. It’s put me off going again. Too greedy, a shame.

The service charge is discretionary. The prices are mentioned in the menu. What we are observing is consumers are not interpreting the voucher offer mechanism clearly. Your perception of a run of the mill curry days are long gone. Every single raw material prices are double and The cost.... We serve 100s guests a week and 95% of our guests leave our premises with a big not of thanks and satisfaction ; because we work our socks off to give every single guests the best of everything: a culinary journey. Over charged and refused receipt

I went there to there was no prices at the menu .. We ordered 1 chicken tikka 2 cokes , 2 boil rice and 1 king prawns .. I got served crab instead of king prawns .. they charged us £51 he didn’t even take the half price off we paid £31 we tried to get our receipt So we can calculate it as £51 comes down to £25.50 But he covered with his hand and turn around mixed with other receipts .. we felt weird and did not want to create a scene they even rushed us wen we were eating ... we paid and left .. so CALCULATE on throw website before you get there .. saffron restaurant in Northampton is a rip off

Ridiculously overpriced

Every time we eat here I leave feeling like I’ve been ripped off. They always have deals or discounts on etc and then when the bill comes out they cannot honour them for a different reason each time. Today we sat in for the ‘Eat in Scheme’. There were 4 of us, all drinking soft drinks, shared two starters, had to send one back as it was completely tasteless and then shared 3 mains between us. The bill should have come to £90 but £60 with the discount (they only honoured it for 3 people because we only had 3 mains). Considering the food was average and we only had soft drinks AND we had £30 off I cannot believe the bill was what it was. I went online after to find that the difference in price to eat in over take away is over £15. Will not be returning here, to put it plain and simple (much like the food), it is overpriced and rude service.

We are a very compliant business house. Our prices are reasonable and never have any problem from our clienteles. We have not charged anyone exorbitantly, Please read the reviews of the other guests what they have said about our business, You are comparing irrational comparison in between take away and dining in. These are 2 different things. Our prices are reasonable and our business is 100% transparent. We can assure you that, you are not overcharged, We have been running this business for the last 20 years and running it with an immaculate reputation, Thanks for the review. best

So first the good points, Staff were friendly and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. So what was not good, We like our curries hot so when you see the "hottest curry in town" advertised you expect something spicy. Sadly we were disappointed, we've had Madras hotter than the so called "firecracker" and the flavor was just average. The prices were very expensive compared to other Indian restaurants we've used, the online menu pricing is different from what you are charged in the restaurant and there were no prices on the menu in restaurant perhaps it's not been updated yet??? Sorry guys, very disappointed and won't be coming again.

Great service beautiful food

Wow great service from the moment Rana opened the door to let us in, took our coats showed us to our table. 8 of us ate here on a Wednesday night when the banquet deal costs £10 a head. So much delicious food it is excellent value for money. Service with a smile and a few jokes for good measure. Really enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend. Thanks

Great food, nice ambience

Had a very good Saturday night dinner at Saffron. I asked the waiter for a recommendation and wasn't disappointed. The portions are generous but priced reasonably and they also have a very good choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Atmosphere was also really nice and the place was clean and we were very well attended to. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing food and service

Always enjoy coming here either just the two of us or with friends . Food is so tasty and the maitre d is always on fine form and makes us feel so welcome (front of house should take a leaf out of his book) waiters and waitresses were excellent . A lovely evening yet again !!

Absolutely fantastic! Been here twice now and the second time was just as good as the first, excellent! The food is beautiful and the portions are filling. The general manager Rana is the definition of professionalism and the restaurant is run like clockwork. Food came out in good time, glasses and plates cleared from the table promptly and they are always on hand when you need a new drink! I would 100% recommend giving this place a try. The food, the service and the atmosphere make this a great place. Whenever I work in Northampton I make this my first choice.

Good quality and friendly staff.

Just wanted a nice sunday evening meal after a hard weekend. We couldn't see the vegetarian options of the dishes we wanted so we asked and they did them for us. Looked good, tasted good and felt healthy. Vegan option looked interesting so may try that next time. Staff were very accomodating and freindly.

Pre ordered food for collection

Ordered on line for collection from restaurant. In arrival order was repeated to me which was wrong. Verbally corrected order and took it home. When at home order was wrong. Called restaurant and they were not very helpful and asked me to go back. So I returned and staff were apologetic until one Morin started to laugh at me behind the bar. Raging I asked the moron to step outside and do it again. Been a regular at this restaurant for years and will not be returning but will try other more customer orientated restaurants. Was offered a proxy bottle of cobra beer as an alpology. Told them to shove it. Food was not as good as good and not a lot of meat in the meals themselves but mainly all sauce. Bitterly dissapointing with the added fact that when trying to resolve my complaint I was laughed at. Very poor as this restaurant is going downhill rapidly. Spoilt the whole evening for myself and family and friends who we had around for the meal. Would no longer recommend Saffron at all after this bitterly dissapointing service and poor quality food

First day back after lockdown

We had a great meal here on the first day back after lockdown. The food was delicious and the service excellent. I had the Chicken Jalfrezi which was perfectly spiced. The staff wore face masks and gloves when severing food, and we were asked to clean our hands with complimentary hand sanitizer on the way in - and also after our meal. Overall it was a great experience, and felt very safe. Look forward to coming back again soon!
