For years we've bought fish and chips from 'greasy square' but tried Wright on the Beach on a summer 2020 visit because we were trying to avoid town. The quality of the fish -both cod and haddock - is excellent so we've been back a few times since. The portion size of the chips varies on different visits but is mostly generous. Battered sausage and other extras also really good. Friendly staff and piping hot fresh food. Just the job!

I've eaten a lot of fish and chips in my time, but these were out of this world. The fish was fresh and crispy, cooked to order, and the hand-cut chips were lovely, neither soggy nor underdone. We ate on the beach, guarding our dinner from dive-bombing gulls! Went there three times in one week, as it turned out, and the food was excellent every time. Will definitely be returning!

We are locals and the se e are the best chips in Swanage, sadly the other establishments have let themselves down this last year. We visited Wright on the beach on Christmas weekend and the food was fresh, hot and delicious. Staff were very friendly. Thoroughly recommended, now I see why there's always long queues out their door! We will no longer be going anywhere else.

Everywhere was packed. Queues of ten or twenty down the street. Except Wright on the Beach. Potentially worth the twenty minute journey to get there. Historically I have been for a quick sea front supper, and it is usually a decent, if not incredible, meal (hence 3 stars). With an already limited menu (no cheese and chips, no vegetarian pie option, no burgers) it was somewhat disappointing to discover the items I asked for were out of stock. However, I chose alternatives and was happy with the service offered. My last disappointment, though, was yet to come. When I returned home to find hairs (yes, plural - there were two) in one of the meals I felt embarrassed. Why not queue for a meal worth paying for? Why travel all that way for something with hairs in it? My advice? Don't bother, unless you're passing on a pleasant evening and want to sit on the promenade listening to lapping waves and cawing seagulls. Maybe wait until the light has faded. Or not, if you want to be sure of no surprises.

My family and I had a lovely fish and chip supper on our arrival to Swanage. Based on the main beach strip, which is pedestrianised, it's the perfect location for enjoying your meal. Food is fresh and service is great, I can understand why the reviews for this place are so good. Portions are big too! Highly recommended.

Visited Swanage recently and wanted good quality fish and chips one evening, spent some time doing research and decided to try “Wright on the Beach” . What a lovely surprise when we sat on the beach to eat the fish and chips as they they were absolutely delicious, far better than we had expected .. Don’t be put off by the very basic premises , these were the best fish and chips I have had in Swanage and I will definitely come back for more soon!!

Chips are poorly made and are served in very little portions without lids to the box and lots of paper is wasted wrapping it like an Egyptian mummy. The dishonest employees scammed me by charging me a different price than was advertised on the wall. One of the people who was taking my order saw a ten pound note in my hand and the price was increased and I lost over a pound which I was expecting to live off for the next week (okay maybe a bit exagerrated). My order took way longer than it should have. I'm surprised at this shocking service and I'm sure a tortise could have died of old age in the time it took for my order to get delivered. The menu on the wall (you know, the one that lies to you) is very misleading and isn't very clear on what you're ordering. I recommend avoiding this place because it is the worst fish and chip shop I've been to.

Found this chip shop online before going to Swanage and was really impressed. Food is cooked to order, hot, fresh and tasty. Chips are crunchy and fish was huge, even though only a regular cod. The chef asked if we wanted our large chips separated into 2 portions, which was ideal. He pointed out places to sit, as although there were tables outside, it was rather windy and cold. Our first fish and chips this year and these will be hard to live up to.

Sometimes this place is good, other times it's pretty poor. We live locally and come often, but last nights experience was well below par, so disappointing, especially as it's not a cheap option these days. The cod was cooked to order, batter cooked through but, and I don't know how this can happen, just tasteless. The chips were so overcooked we left well over half - it was just loads of the little bits that had been flash fried again. I would have taken it back but we'd gone to a bar that allows you to bring food and I really couldn't be bothered with the walk back. The lesson here is to look at what other people have and see if the chips for instance are any good.

There are too many fish and chip shops, especially on sea fronts, who cut corners and use frozen chips rather than the far superior hand cut version. As far as I'm concerned, if they're cooking frozen chips, then they're not a proper fish and chip shop. Wright on the Beach uses hand cut chips, the chips are excellent, they're a proper fish and chip shop and that's why I'm recommending them.

Fancied fish and chips as we were walking along the sea front in Swanage and came upon this takeaway. Ordered Cod and chips and jumbo sausage in batter and chips and a small bottle of water. This came to £13.80, £1.50 of which was for the water. But, I can honestly say these were the most delicious chips I have ever had in my life! Not greasy and very crispy! Well impressed!

Cycled from the Isle of Wight to Swanage for Fish and Chips. Looked at reviews for chip shops beforehand and chose Wright on the beach due to excellent reviews and location. The food is cooked to order and when it arrived it was hot and an excellent portion and was one of the best Fish and Chips I've ever tasted!!! So if you find yourself in Swanage looking for Fish and Chips look no further

very good fish and chips. Good deal on two small fish and portion of tripsd only £10.00. Weather was king to us so eat on the beach can't beat good fish and chips on the beach.

This fish & chip shop does more types of fish than Cod & Haddock on a regular basis. I think they stocked Hake and one or two other types of fish as well. They also do Pineapple Fritters for those who like something sweet. Their chips seem to be drier, or not so oily, as at other chippies so if you like them drier give this one a try. I think I will try the Hake next time and see what that tastes like.

Found Wright on the Beach almost by accident and had a delicious lunch on the beachfront. Bit of a queue but worth a short wait for their beautifully cooked, large portions of fresh fish. Staff were chatty and friendly as they took our order and called us back 5 minutes later when ready. We had their whitebait 😋, cod and plaice, all with chips. Will def go back if we’re back in the area again. Highly recommend.
