About
We are Vancouver's only Indigenous restaurant. We specialize in wild fish, free range game meat and of course bannock, freshly baked daily. We use traditional ingredients that we prepare and present in a modern way. In our small casual bistro everyone is welcome as they are. In the spirit of First Nations' traditions, our intention is to provide a gathering place where the focus is on the people and the food. Please be aware that we love celebrating the seasons, so our menu changes regularly and without notice. Inez (Nuxalk Nation), Owner.

What is this place was an amazing surprise from the entrées right through to the main course to the desert this should not be missed. They have a great deal for $140 includes a full menu for two people with wine talk about a great deal and a great evening out run by very enthusiastic young folks that are awesome at their job. Could not recommend it more

The staff at Salmon n' Bannock were absolutely the best. My husband has multiple food allergies (gluten, dairy, and corn being the worst) so it is very hard to eat out while still having a tasty meal. Bridget was our server and went Above and Beyond helping us find something my husband could have even going as far as letting us review the mix used for the GF Bannock. The kitchen gave ideas and offered subsitutions. He ended up having the salmon over rice pilaf with roasted vegetables. He is still singing the praises of the meal. They even prepared a special Birthday desert that he could have. I have zero reservations recommending this restaurant. Speaking of reservations, they highly recommend making them as it is a small restaurant. Thank you again for making his birthday dinner memorable.

Salmon N Bannock Bistro on Broadway in Vancouver has taken the months of Covid crisis to redecorate & do all the things it was too busy to do with a full restaurant, so as to be ready to serve its wonderful food on reopening, inspired by First Nations’ recipes, handed down from the various nations of Canada’s oldest inhabitants. The Salmon N’ Bannock opened for the Winter Olympics held in Vancouver in 2010 & has been delighting the palates of locals & visitors ever since. It is well- located on the Broadway corridor, in the vicinity of the Vancouver General Hospital, easily accessible to many of the cities neigbourhoods, as well as to downtown. The menus offers a great variety of dishes, ranging from salmon to game & much more. It offers a salmon sampler, as well as a game sampler, both good choices, if one is wanting to taste across the spectrum. It also has a good drinks list. I have been going to Salmon N’ Bannock since not long after it opened its doors & I have recommended it to many, especially visitors from elsewhere. All have appreciated my recommendation & enjoyed the food & the service. The restaurant has staff from eight of Canada’s First Nations. Owner Inez Cook is from one of Canada’s First Nations & suffered, as a child in the Sixties scoop, another of the awful things done to First Nations children by the Canadian government, along with the treatment handed out in the Residential Schools. I love popping in for the Candied Salmon, always delicious, both as a starter and to end a meal, & a very good choice at $10. With social distancing, seating is limited, so reservations are recommended. It is open seven days a week from 5pm to 9 pm for dine in & from 3pm for takeout. I recommend Salmon N’ Bannock without reservation. It is a special place Posted by S Fuller

We went as a small group of students, and even though we didn’t have a reservation, we were lucky that they managed to fit us in. I can honestly say it was some of the best food I’ve ever had. We shared a salmon sampler as a group, and they were all good. The two people I was with are gluten-free, and their famous bannock bread not only comes in a gluten-free option, it’s a GOOD gluten-free option— apparently the best either of them had ever had. I got the salmon flatbread. It was a bit pricey, but the food AND experience itself is very worthwhile.

Salmon n Bannock is without a doubt my FAVOURITE restaurant in Vancouver! The staff is absolutely incredible and the food is beyond this world. This is an excellent place to take visitors to Vancouver or if you want to try something a little different. The west coast indigenous culture creates not only amazing food that is made with so much love and care but also brings out the beauty of our first peoples by displaying art by local artists. As someone with Celiac they are always super careful with my food and have amazing gluten free options including G-Free Bannock! It's small and intimate so great for date night or a night out with friends. Lots of parking in the area. I can't recommend this place enough!

My business partner amazing surprise me for dinner at the Salmon n' Bannock ,she were here last week with her associate she love it so much ,and she know I am so fussy about my meat special she know me , I Miss My Friend Bison ! because four of us had a great time in The Bison restaurant in Banff few years ago ! the Bistro is located in Broadway Centre ,and the only First Nation restaurant in town ,due to the Covid 19 ,restaurant only operating six tablets ,reservation must ,safety guidelines well follow ,ambiance, atmosphere ,very cozy and beautiful First National arts around the dinning room , menu is 100 % Aboriginal cuisine ,lot of interesting choices ,if you do not like game meat ,there is a lot of fish dishes , Mamma ! Min !!! my 24 hours Bison Pot roast is out of this word !,very tender ,just melt in my mouth ,simply stunning ,juicy and flavourful , my friends Salmon looks very delicious too , we share the Game sampler ,truly amazing also the fresh yummy bannock , it is so good , I already booked my " Dine Out Vancouver 2021 " only $ 45 per person for my sisters and brother ( 4 of us ) ! so if you want some thing different for dinner ,try The Salmon n's Bannock ,it is nothing compared to any restaurants you visit ,it is only Aboriginal cuisine in Vancouver . price very moderate ,staff very friendly .Bye Bye Bison ,see you soon !

We went to Salmon n’ Bannock after many referrals and it exceeded all expectations! The atmosphere offers beautiful, traditional artwork and music in a cozy and welcoming environment. Going out to eat in COVID feels a bit strange but the owner and our server instantly made us feel us feel like family and want to be regulars. Just chatting with them added so much to our night. Food and drink service was quick and they have a really nice variety of non-alcoholic beverages too, which can be hard to find. We did the DineOut Vancouver menu and couldn’t choose a favourite part. I’d recommend the bison meatballs, oysters, elk Wellington, mackarel mousse, candied salmon and sticky toffee pudding. All the food was hot, fresh, incredibly flavorful and high quality. We also were surprised by how lovely the cedar jelly was with the bannock and ordered a six piece bannock to go. It’s perfect for having on hand in the freezer for stews, Chili’s, brunch, you name it. We can’t wait to take visitors here!

Went to Salmon n' Bannock for a get together with friends, wanting to try indigenous food and indegenous wine,so we went to the only indegenous Restaurant in Vancouver. I had the slow braised Bison pot roast, I had never tried Bison before and it was so yummy! My friends had the Halibut with apple fennel slaw on bannock. And they made a special platter for us to try a variety of things, Pemmican mousse ( smoked bison traditionally hand pounded by stone. Smoked Candied Salmon, Sockeye Ceviche and Salmon mouse. I never liked Salmon until I had this platter! Most welcoming and charismatic staff who were also all Indegenous, what an experience! Definately recommend this place will definitely be returning!

We just finished our meal and I am honestly, at a loss for words. We are ending our weeklong trip to Vancouver, and if we would have come here for dinner earlier, we would have come every. single. night. My husband and I have been to over 20 countries, and tonight was the best restaurant experience I have ever had. You feel welcomed from the moment you enter, like you are going into a friend’s home for a meal. The manager came to our table several times to chat, and our waitress Bridget was hilarious, kind, and so knowledgeable about everything on the menu, down to the ingredients that were in a homemade soda! Our meals were out of this world, evidently made with such passion and love. Honestly, halfway through, after taking a bite of the most delicious corn I have ever tasted, I almost cried. It was really a touching experience, the food, the people, the decor, the music, everything. What an amazing place. Thank you to the entire team, thank you so much.

I had the honour of enjoying Salmon n Bannock with my close family and friends. Most of them had never been and I can guarantee they (and I) will be back. The flavours, effort and expertise within the menu are unparalleled. The staff are informative, engaged and enthusiastic to ensure our culinary enjoyment was top notch!! My guests were eager to take both Bridget and Darnell home...they are treasures! I applaud your kitchen staff, they are on point with all the dishes our table enjoyed! Recommended dishes include the mushrooms on toasted bannock: Pemmican mousse: and the tender buttery bison pot roast! Thank you all for a memorable experience!!

Comfortable room and very friendly service. Great menu with a wide range of appealing options. Our appetizers were outstanding and we thought we were in for one of our best-ever meals. But our main courses were weak - salmon and snapper were overcooked and the Bison pot-roast lacked flavour.

April 8, 2022 - Finally, Friday arrived, the much awaited day to try out the First Nation's Restaurant and their Bison Pot Roast specialty. Based on one of the reviews, an order of their Bison is enough for two. I am glad we didn't go for it. It was so tasty and tender, came with asparagus, mashed potatoes and 2 pcs. of bison meat with gravy. By the looks of it, we are glad we didn't split an order. The bannock were baked and served with a piece of butter. I think I prefer the fried bannock served with wild berry jams. My friend had the salmon samplers as she doesn't eat beef or any wild meat like bison and elk. As a starter, I ordered their House soda made out of hibiscus, rosehips, apple and orange. The soda wasn't that sweet and based on what it's made of, I think it's a healthy drink. The lady server was very good, describing the appetizers, and the main entrées. I was so ganged ho on tasting the bison, I almost forgot to take pictures. The restaurant doesn't have that many tables so better make a reservation before you go.

My girlfriend and I just experienced what may be the best restaurant in the city. By that I mean the food is locally sourced and unique. You will not get cuisine like this anywhere else. We had the duck with bacon and squash, the game meat ampler and mushroom on toasted bannock. All of the food was mouth-watering, and the service was beyond exceptional. Thank you so much, Bridgette, for your outstanding and knowledgable service. We will be back for sure. And when Covid is over we'll bring more friends and family!

We went wanting to support an Indigenous business and ended up being overwhelmed. The food was brilliant and there was a celebration for the end of filming of an Indigenous entrepreneur's competition which brought us close to tears several times. But everyone should come for the food.

This is my 2nd time at Salmon n' Bannock but it has easily become one of my Top10 places in Van! The flavors are unique and refreshing. As someone who loves comfort food, this place hits all the right spots. Amazing food, friendly folks, cozy environment. The elk sausages smothered in gravy was juicy and flavourful with just a hint of zest on the cauliflower and asparagus. We also ordered the Salmon mousse w/Bannock crackers, and terrine/charcuterie. Everything is seasoned perfectly. Though my favorite is this amazing cedar jelly that you spread on your Bannock that is.... muuuuah*** chefs kiss! There's nothing else quite like it and I am obsessed. And oh! Out server was super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and just made it feel supremely welcoming. I couldnt recommend this place enough. :D
