About
The Fort la Reine Museum is made up of 25 buildings and it covers 300 years of prairie history. To learn about the fur trade and exploration period visit the Fort la Reine replica and the corresponding York boat and trappers cabin. It has a collection of homes each showcasing a different era of pioneer living. The pioneer village also has a variety of businesses and a one room school house built in 1881. A part of the collection touches upon the railway and has CPR’s general manger, Sir William Van Horne’s person business car from 1882. Regular season is from May - October, but private tours may be booked in advance during the off-season. Themed events and workshops are regularly scheduled during the regular and off seasons!

Have passed by this gem too many times to mention and finally decided to go in and check it out. It was only open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm (fall hours). We got there right at opening and good thing we did because there is so much to see here that the full four hours was actually not enough time. If you want to really go through all they have here to see it would take much longer. They are very different in that they allow hands on experience and very little is actually roped off. So you are allowed to pick up and examine most things and go through the buildings and really get a feel for them. We are seniors so it only cost $8 which is nothing really comparetively speaking and was worth every cent. The gentleman who was taking care of the facility at our visit was very informative and pleasant. If you are like myself and interested in seeing how folks lived in the past this place is a definite must and I highly recommend it.

This museum is basically on two subjects, farm equipment from very old to almost modern and pioneer life. I was somewhat interested in the farm equipment because I knew what most of it was for. The kids and I enjoyed seeing the old farm buildings and the stuff inside them. People living in very tiny spaces back then. Life was hard then. The kids enjoyed seeing all the gophers. They were all over the place.

Stopped to eat lunch in their parking lot and decided to visit the museum. Range of topics from local military history, settler history, agricultural history, and church history. Old buildings filled with period items. Well worth an hour to visit. A lot of work has gone into the site. Well done

The girl at the front desk was wonderful! It had an excellent variety of historical homes from different time periods. There was also a super fun little scavenger hunt and they gave out free freezies if you completed it.

My friends and I attended the museum’s tea party tour this afternoon and it was absolutely splendid! We booked rather late in the day yesterday (ie five minutes before the museum closed) but Riley was super helpful with the booking process and was even able to accommodate the allergies within the group.
We did the Pioneers and Trailblazers tour with guides “James” and “Symon”, a couple of gents from 1930s Manitoba (costumes were great!). They were very engaging, enthusiastic, professional and humorous and made the entire experience even better than we could have imagined. They were also really knowledgeable and were able to answer all our questions about the museum’s artifacts. Even if they weren’t sure of an answer off the top of their heads, they made sure to check their records to provide us with one.
The tea party and Victorian etiquette lesson following the tour were also excellent. All in all, we had a great time. Check it out if you can!
Pricing is also very reasonable ($5 for tea party on top of museum admission, which is $10 for adults. Plus, you are able to check out the museum at your own pace after your tea so it’s very easy to make an entire day of it).

We really enjoyed our afternoon out at the museum. Unfortunately, the weekend we came, they switched over to their fall schedule, so we only had a couple of hours to explore. We still enjoyed wandering through most of the buildings and really enjoyed our visit. I would highly recommend this museum, but just leave yourself enough time to see it all.

We were there for over two hours and still did not see everything. There was a lot of interesting information. Lots of buildings to look at. I have trouble with my knees and my husband has breathing problems so we did not go upstairs in the buildings. There are a lot of old furniture and ornaments, appliances, etc.

I visited here when I moved to town nine years ago and swore I would never go back. The thing that made me change my mind was a workshop series offered throughout the summer to help remember the stories of Indigenous people in this area. I appreciated the stories I heard that evening so I have given them five stars for making a genuine effort to broaden the stories they tell beyond those of white settlers in the area.

I was visiting my kids and grandkids from Ontario and got to experience Fright Night at For la Reine Museum. I've heard a lot about this museum from my 7 yrs old granddaughter who loves it. It was $20 for the 4 of us. You put a bracelet on if you did not want frightened. Good idea to bring flashlights if you tend to get frightened easily plus it helps you find your way around. We went from building to building in the dark. Each building was decorated with people dressed in costumes to frighten. Our kids ages 7 and 3 loved it. We carved pumpkins, did a cob web maze, made masks, had hotdogs and roasted marshmallows making smores. After the food a drink would have been nice but that is the only suggestion I have. Upon leaving they give you a bag of cheesies with a $1 off Kid City. You pay for nothing once in. We went on a gorgeous night and sat by the campfire listening to stories being read. Lots of fun, thanks Fort La Reine, great job.

We were staying in Oakville and decided to visit the museum prior to leaving. The primary mistake we made is that we didn't give ourselves enough time to check all of the displays. The museum still provides a tour guide to walk through most of the displays. Our particular guide (Rachel) was very knowledgeable and accommodating - checking in with us to determine what we should see (as noted, we didn't quite have enough time to see it all). Overall, there is a great collection of nostalgic pieces that sheds a light on the local history of the area. Kudos to the staff for such an exhibition.
