About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- G4983GRlouiseh0 contributionsDo this tourAmazing experience! Wonderful to see Pompei. Best part was our guide, Julia. We became People of Julia for the two hours and we were happy yo be so. She made the history come alive by giving us interesting insights on what daily life might have been like, based on evidence and theory. As an archaeologist who had worked at the site, she knew her stuff and gave great answers to questions. She was also very funny. Made the experience for us! Also Aksos tours were very organised and it was so smooth in terms of comms and on the day. Highly recommend.Written July 24, 2024
- CC_TVFilm0 contributionsWhat an amazing day from start to finish with an amusing archaeological eye!I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Our guide Vincenzo (aka Vince) gave a fascinating insight and stories behind the amazingly-preserved architecture and objects contained in these two lost city/town settlements. Even in 35 degree-plus Celsius temperatures and several path-crossing tour parties, Vincenzo along with the fleet of drivers and assistants with Askos all made sure the parties were well-catered for, insightfully-informed and expertly entertained from start to finish. I particularly found the stories behind the preserved graffiti, fresco designs and connections to Greek culture and mythology fascinating to hear. It all combined to bring these lost communities/civilisations back to life in such a detailed yet engrossing way for 21st century visitors. A+++++++Written July 24, 2024
- G923KUjamiel0 contributionsPaolo is who you need!We have just got back from Pompei and it was great. Paolo was a fantastic tour guide and was so knowledgeable, approachable and charismatic. I've been to Pompei before but didn't have a guide, this was a mistake. I would now always encourage people to take a tour guide.Written July 24, 2024
- 154josephinek0 contributionsSuperior experience with amazing guideOverall a great experience and must do! The tour guide was an archeologist who worked at the Pompeii site. This gave our tour a unique perspective and was extremely knowledgeable about the ruins. Pompeii was larger than expected and many groups were lost. Not us! Our guide knew exactly where to go and made sure we stopped by the major highlights. Herculaneum was my favorite as it was less crowded and the artifacts were well preserved. We went on a hot day and our guide was very careful to stop us anywhere there was shade and even offered an extra umbrella for those less prepared for the heat and sun.Written July 24, 2024
- Patricia A0 contributionsRafael was the best guide! Great trip!Rafael was our tour guide. Funny, witty, and very knowledgeable. Interacted with all of the group and encouraged questions. We had a slight challenge today in the a freak thunderstorm brewed up as we finished with lunch prior to the Pompeii tour. Luckily the worst seemed past as we all wanted to love forward with the tour (there was some thunder and lightning just before we started). Everyone in our group wanted to go forward with the tour and so we did. I learned a lot from Rafael. As I said he was not just a book or archeological “nerd”. Gave us the facts and the stories along with the mythological past that the peoples believed in. I loved every second despite the rain. I would highly recommend and hope many more enjoy Rafael’s humor and personality intertwined with history.Written July 22, 2024
- Wanderer492642751470 contributionsGreat way to discover Pompeii and Herculaneum for the first timeOur guide Raphael has led us through Pompeii and Herculaneum in a really interesting and entertaining way, allowing us to grasp the essence of the history of these beautiful sites. Pompeii is definitely huge and deserves a second visit for sure if you want to visit it all. I strongly recommend this tour for a first visit ☺️Written July 22, 2024
- Nomad538567849240 contributionsFantastic, lively, educational, entertaining.A lively and immensely informative, educational and entertaining tour of Herculaneum with Dr. Luciano Leone, who very skillfully and engaging took us all through the secrets of the site. I can only highly recommend the tour and especially Dr. Leone who all by himself made a world of a difference. Thank you so much!Written July 21, 2024

- godfreyw2880 contributionsGreat guided tour with a real archeologist!Excellent guided walking tour of the highlights of Pompeii. Highly recommended. The guide, Sergio, was a real archeologist, knowledgable, and enthusiastic. Well worth the tour price rather than just doing it self guided.Written July 17, 2024

- cpstewart0 contributionsLuciano is the best!Luciano kept us captivated throughout the tour with his knowledge and enthusiasm. He also pointed out some features easy to miss and preserved in the thick mud. Fantastic day and will definitely come back out of season when it is cooler to spend more time exploring this historical site.Written July 17, 2024
- coffeequeen180 contributionsWonderful tour and driver! What a fantastic day spent with our tour guide Giovanni! He was easy to spot once we got off the cruise ship. We had a semi private tour for our family of five and two other people. We started off with the drive to Positano for some picture postcard views. We continued on to Sorrento where we had some free time to explore. Could have spent a ton more time there but a good reason to plan a trip back. After that, we made our way back to Pompeii, but before then we wanted a place to have lunch and Giovanni recommended a great little out-of-the-way restaurant at the locals frequent. The food did not disappoint! After lunch, we hit Pompeii. It was hot! Giovanni was waiting for us after our tour right where he said he would be with the air conditioning on in the van! You could tell that Giovanni had a passion for his job and for the city in which he calls home. It was such a wonderful day. Thank you to Giovanni For sharing his knowledge and stories during our drive.Written July 16, 2024

Fantastic, compact and informative tour with an extremely knowledgeable and friendly archeologist/tour guide. The group was a good size and we were able to see and be informed of lots of things/information on the two hours time.

Pompeii is amazing but the tour is an absolute must as the experience is improved tenfold. Antonella was phenomenal, super knowledgeable, engaging and friendly. Do not visit Pompeii without a tour, this one is particularly good.

Julia was a great tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Pompeii and had a wonderful Italian accent. It was extremely hot and she did her best to keep us in the shade. We only took a two hour tour which was just the right amount of time since you can explore on your own after the tour.

Our guide Giulia was passionate and full of energy despite the weather being so incredibly hot that day. We highly recommend Askos tours as they were very prompt and friendly. I do believe we got lucky that we had Giulia as our guide, we cannot be more grateful and happy with the experience we were given. ☺️

Paulo with Askos tours did a wonderful job showing us Pompeii. He helped us navigate away from the crowds, find water, and shade. He was very knowledgeable of the history, culture, and people.
We picked a 2 hour tour, but Paulo provided us with maps so we could explore more on our own. It was hot, but was expected for July.
I also appreciated all the communication from Askos tours to make sure we had all information needed to be in the right place.

what is the best form of transportation from Rome to the site? I would prefer to not have to rent a car. Thanks

You can take a train from Rome to Naples in under an hour (look up trenitalia online - not allowed to post links here apparently) and then in Naples you switch to a local train, the Circumvesuviana. Local trains run every half hour or so and you can buy a ticket and board the train downstairs from where the high speed trains come in. The whole trip would be about an hour and a half - maybe a little more depending on connections.

Streets are cobbled and very uneven and it is quite a large site. I would say it might be challenging for someone with limited mobility. Herculaneum would probably be a good alternative if you had concerns.
Has anyone used the free luggage storage while doing the tour? Is it safe and secure? Thanks

Hello, we are a group of 16 adults as part of a corporate retreat The description says 20 people, but the ordering form only allows 15. How do we book it. We want to book the 10:30 tour on Wed, Sept 28.

Hi, we are thinking of reserving a tour in Oct. This tour sounds great. Does it include both Pompeii and Herculaneum or just Pompeii? We are definitely interested in seeing both during our stay in Naples. Brian

Mine just included Pompeii but the archeologist (Paolo) talked a lot about the correlations between Pompeii and Herculaneum as he's actively working at these sites.
Bonjour
