Escaping to paradise doesn’t have to be that difficult. No matter where you live in the U.S., a flight or two delivers you to Mexico, where you’ll find exquisite beaches from the windswept Pacific shores to the calm Caribbean coast. And these properties, which were voted best in the country by our readers, are more than ready to pamper you, whether your passion is snorkeling or surfing or just getting a massage every day at the spa.

Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as City or Resort based on their locations and amenities.

On this year’s lists are some familiar favorites. Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort in San José del Cabo, has long been a hideaway for the Hollywood crowd (Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron), renowned as much for its discreet service as for its thoughtfully decorated rooms — where you’ll find everything from telescopes to welcome tequila. One reader summed it up by saying, “They go above and beyond for their guests. A day prior to leaving, I requested a bathrobe — and they delivered it the next day with my initials embroidered on it.”

Across the country, along Mexico’s Riviera Maya, sister property Rosewood Mayakoba placed No. 2 — no doubt thanks to its stellar culinary offerings, overseen by chef Juan Pablo Loza. One of the standouts is La Ceiba, a twice-weekly gathering in the garden during which guests can taste food cooked over an in-ground fire pit, in the traditional Mayan style. Nizuc Resort & Spa (No. 10) again receives accolades as the finest place to stay in Cancún, while the 59-suite Capella Ixtapa (No. 4) was the only property to rank in the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area along the Pacific Coast.

Whales and dolphins swim within sight of this resort, where every guest’s need is met before it even becomes a want. No wonder our readers sing the praises of the Resort at Pedregal, located on the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula. Carved into a cliff on 24 acres overlooking the sea, guests can choose to get away from civilization — consider swimming with the whale sharks! — or indulge in the best the property has to offer at the spa or poolside. No surprise that one guest — speaking for many — wrote, “My first choice always.”
