The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole is exactly what you're picturing when you think of an ultra-luxe Jackson Hole lodge. It's not located near downtown, but rather in Teton Village, the ski town at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort — and that's why it's able to offer ski-in, ski-out services. There are several dining options, from the traditional steakhouse Westbank Grill to the American pub The Handle Bar to the Ascent Lounge bar that serves an eclectic menu of shared plates, from Wagyu tartare to stuffed Medjool dates to duck confit à l'orange. The 12,000-square-foot spa is perfect for relaxing, and the resort also offers a via ferrata for adrenaline rushes, and a resident astronomer who guides stargazing sessions. What makes this property stand out, though, is its extremely attentive service. The public areas of the resort feel residential, too — in an upgraded way — with double-height ceilings and panoramic views of the mountains. The staff will attend to you in every way you need: they can organize all your off-property excursions, from hot air balloon rides to heli-skiing. There are also few other signs that this isn't a private home: namely, a restaurant, two bars, and an extraordinary spa (Aman properties are known for them).

Why We Chose It

Nostalgia reigns supreme at this motor lodge, which is actually a chic contemporary property with all the hallmarks of a retro motel, from a courtyard pool to wood-paneled rooms.

Key Specs

  • Free Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Resort Fee: Yes
  • Room Rate: $

Notable Amenities

All-season pool, winter ski shuttles, western boutique

Hotel Description

Throw it back to the days of a classic American road trip at this retro motel and RV park, right on the main road leading out of Jackson Hole. The Virginian Lodge is one of the newer properties in town, but you might not guess it by the decor. It was intentionally designed in an old-school vibe. Think: mid-century in an appropriately kitsch way with walnut paneling, gray plaid carpet, and sheepskin pillows. Many of the 165 rooms encircle the courtyard, where guests can enjoy Adirondack chairs, fire pits, a pool, and two hot tubs. You'll also find a saloon, a burger joint, and a greasy spoon open for breakfast and lunch. It's a nod to a different era, but the overall experience is quite chic.

The eight multi-bedroom suites at Caldera House look as if they belong in a penthouse in a bustling city. They're perfectly mountain-meets-midcentury chic with wood, suede, and plaid in an elevated decor scheme, filled with furnishings by star designers John Pawson and Patricia Urquiola. Despite the modest room count, Caldera House lays it on thick with amenities. In the rooms, which include Le Labo toiletries, guests will find an iPad-controlled sound system and a Nespresso machine. Elsewhere at the hotel: an Italian restaurant, a sushi bar, a casual café, a member's lounge for après, a sports shop, a ski room, and a spa and athletic club. And the final perk — valet parking in a notoriously parking-sparse area.

The Wort

The Word Jackson Hole

Why We Chose It

This is Jackson Hole's historic grande dame, located just off Town Square, and its Silver Dollar Bar is a must-see.

  • Free Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Resort Fee: Yes
  • Room Rate: $$

Notable Amenities

Music venue, ski shuttle, free après ski in season

Hotel Description

Built in 1941, the Tudor-style Wort hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it's one of the Historic Hotels of America. It might come as little surprise, then, that this is a full-on western-themed hotel, but in an authentic rather than tacky way. Its 55 rooms and suites are filled with log beds, antler lamps, and an enviable western painting collection. Be sure to opt for one of the five themed suites for some really over-the-top western decor, like cowhide, red leather, and bronze sculptures. The must-see amenity here is the Silver Dollar Bar (adjacent to the Silver Dollar Grill), which has a bar inlaid with thousands of 1921 uncirculated Morgan silver dollars.

Final Verdict

Four Seasons is one of the most highly regarded luxury hotel brands in the world, and its property in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, certainly upholds that legacy. For starters, it offers guests ski-in, ski-out access, not to mention a 12,000-square-foot spa. Where Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole rises above the rest, however, is in its extraordinarily attentive service. For a lodge that's a little more budget-friendly experience, you can't go wrong with the Lodge at Jackson Hole, which has plenty of amenities, from spa treatment rooms to an indoor-outdoor pool, but is a little closer to downtown Jackson Hole. And if you're craving an even more urban experience, the boutique Hotel Jackson is right in the middle of downtown, so you can walk to dining and shopping.
