Hoda and Jenna weigh in on criticism around Olivia Culpo's wedding dress: 'You can't win'

Culpo's gown has received quite the backlash on Instagram and TikTok.

Model and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo has the internet divided over the wedding dress she wore June 29 to officially tie the knot with NFL star Christian McCaffrey.

On TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, the two joined in on the debate, defending Culpo and criticizing "trolls" who posted negative comments about the dress online.

"Why does anybody feel like they get to comment on how she's dressed? She looks beautiful," Jenna said on July 9. "People were down in their basement saying she's too covered up, you can't win."

The long-sleeved white gown with a full A-line skirt was designed by Dolce and Gabbana and described by Culpo as “the dress of my dreams” on Instagram.

Hoda and Jenna described the dress as "very classic," a sentiment echoed by Culpo in an Instagram post featured by Vogue on June 29.

"I wanted it to feel timeless, effortless and as if it's complimenting me, not overpowering me," Culpo told Vogue. "I did not want to exude sex in any way, shape, or form."

"I guess the internet was divided over it even though. We think she looks beautiful," Jenna said.

McCaffrey also came to his wife's defense by responding to online fashion influencer Kennedy Bingham, who criticized the wedding dress choice in a video posted on Instagram.

“What an evil thing to post online. I hope you can find joy and peace in the world, the way my beautiful wife does,” the NFL star said in the comments of the Instagram video posted July 2 by Bingham, who discusses fashion on social media using the name Gown Eyed Girl.

In her video, Bingham remarked that "there is no personality in this dress," and criticized Culpo of "pushing this idea of what she thinks all brides should look like.”

However, other Instagram users were quick to come to Culpo's defense in the comments and condemn Bingham for her "highly distasteful" response.

"Sad to see a platform with such a large following being used to critique and criticize someone on one of the happiest days of their life. @oliviaculpo looks absolutely stunning," one Instagram user wrote.

"If you can’t say anything nice, then do not say a word. It is her day, not yours. She looks stunning," added another.
