Hoda and Jenna discuss their friendship styles: See why Jenna’s an ‘Evergreen’ and Hoda’s a ‘Firefly’

A popular quiz by The New York Times shows that people can be one of four friendship styles: Evergreen, Wallflower, Butterfly or Firefly.

Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager are revealing their friendship styles.

On the June 14 episode of TODAY With Hoda & Jenna, the pair revealed that they took a popular quiz that The New York Times published about friendship styles.

The article and quiz, developed with the author Kasley Killam and based on her book "The Art and Science of Connection," explores how people can be one of four types of friends:

  • Butterfly: A person who thrives with frequent social interaction and is an excellent party guest and host.
  • Firefly: A person who limits social engagements and is highly focused when they're around friends.
  • Evergreen: A person who feels most alive when they have many social interactions, but only with close friends.
  • Wallflower: A person who is somewhat shy, has a light social calendar, but is also very attentive to others.

While talking about the different friendship styles, Jenna revealed she's an "Evergreen." However, Hoda disagreed.

"No, I think that you have many deep interactions with people who are outside of your social circle," she told her co-host.

"OK, I probably do," Jenna replied. "But, it tires me. Like, if I go to a big party with strangers, sometimes I'm like, why did I do that? I'm so tired. I want to get into the fetal position."

As Hoda, she said her friendship style is a "Firefly."

"It's very true," Jenna said while clapping.

"It's on the money," Hoda agreed, adding, "That is me. That is exactly me. I have just a smattering of social engagements, but I like to have real conversations because I don't like small talk."
