After he blitzed his way into the wider consciousness with a stunning 100m title in the prestigious US collegiate finals, the question about new sprint sensation Louie Hinchliffe was whether he could do it on a wet Saturday night in Manchester. The answer was delivered in some style.

The 21-year-old’s winning time of 10.18 secs at the UK Championships and Olympic trials was modest, but it was into a headwind, on a slow track gathering puddles and against the best of British.
