Tom Marquand is in pole position to land the apprentice jockeys’ title and can add to his tally through Zebs Lad (2.30 Brighton), who looks a fair bet at the 5-1 generally on offer this morning.
This sprinter returned to form over course and distance last time – with Marquand on board – as he finished a good second to Tancred nine days ago.
He looked the likely winner for much of that race but tired in the closing stages on heavy ground, nonetheless showing good enough form to take this prize. The better ground today will put less emphasis on stamina and Zebs Lad will be tough to pass.
