There were fewer fresh news stories than I would have hoped for, beginning with another look at the Duke of York’s friendship with the socialite Goga Ashkenazi. An eye-catching cover image of her certainly does as intended, and sets the tone for what is an in-depth profile of the socialite’s ridiculous (albeit very readable) lifestyle.
The analysis on the proposed cuts to the police service was well executed, with several stats boxes helping to outline the argument and steer it away from being just another Government versus public services row. Perhaps more could have been made of Sarah Burton’s designs for Alexander McQueen if we are to believe that she is hot favourite to design Kate Middleton’s dress.
On to Times 2 and an enjoyable fashion section, with well-established trends for next winter thanks to Lisa Armstrong and co. Really nice to see the Times 2 team getting involved with the debate on the flares trend, but perhaps an explanation as to which girl is the tall girl, the curvy girl, the flares virgin etc. would have helped clarity, and would a simple scoring system for each outfit too, as everyone looked slim and fantastic.
Matthew Syed’s comment piece on being a neutral while watching sport was clever and could not be faulted, and justified his award as Sports Feature Writer of the Year.
