This issue of The Times had good pieces of journalism throughout, particularly in the Opinion and World sections of the paper. The front-page report about the lack of diversity in the judiciary was a very interesting read. The journalists did well to shine a light on an area in society that is normally cloaked in mystery and they produced a strong piece of journalism through the variety of sources used.
However, I did not feel that the royal visit to Canada was a worthy front-page picture, due to it having been a busy news day. I would not have used the picture of the Duchess of Cambridge as I do not feel it pulls the reader in.
Anatole Kaletsky’s Opinion piece — “America’s nightmare: to be Greece with Google” — was a piece of journalism that really stood out. The article was especially insightful and the knowledgeable discourse made readers really ponder about the possibility of a “real financial nightmare that could soon descend on the world”.
Meanwhile, in Sport, the back page highlighted the correct lead article, focusing on the potential devastating nature of an alleged $50 million “bribe” in Formula One. Also, Matthew Syed’s feature on Franco Baldini was a very entertaining piece of writing, with the colourful language fully engaging this reader.
