You, the editor

Suzanne Fregly, a freelance editor and writer from Hove, reviews The Times

Yesterday’s paper gave an ample and disturbing account of the serial killer at large in France. However, even though the news pertained to another country, it should have featured as the lead article on the cover, rather than the Heathrow runway debate.

The leading article “A New Dawn” made sense and I hope policymakers will take it to heart. As Mo Ibrahim wrote in his Opinion piece, Africans need to be free to vote and have basic human rights for any investment and development plan to work.

“Millionaire’s daughter ‘drove getaway car for riot looters’ ” was an interesting report. Speaking of the wealthy, was the Duchess of Cambridge’s visit and speech at a children’s hospice worth half a page? Also, how many people really care if she wears her mother’s clothes? You gave her visit and dress more coverage than the far more important issue of terminally ill people’s right to die.

The article in times2 about England’s women’s rugby team was a surprise, and we should all be proud of them. The Times should devote more coverage to women in sport.

Last, I always enjoy reading the facts and figures in the Daily Universal Register, as well as short articles such as the one about the monkey at a Kent animal park which likes the smell, but not the taste, of daffodils. Such articles can brighten a day.
