Teenager survives Golden Gate jump

Washington A teenager escaped with minor injuries after jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco ( Nico Hines writes). The 17-year-old from northern California fell 67m (220ft), landing feet-first in water.

He said he was a recreational bridge jumper and had tried similar stunts. At least 98 per cent of those who jump from the world’s most popular suicide spot die.

Revenge deaths

Lucknow Nine people were burnt alive in revenge attacks after a village chief was shot dead over a property dispute in the village of Maharajganj, in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, police said. (AP)

Houston A British lawyer faces jail after he admitted helping a construction company bribe Nigerian officials to win £3.7 billion of business. Jeffrey Tesler, 62, was extradited to Houston, Texas, and will be sentenced on June 22.
