Ex-PM’s sister leads polls

About 170,000 police officers have been deployed to protect polling stations in today’s Thai elections. Polls suggest Yingluck Shinawatra, 44, sister of the former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, will defeat Abhisit Vejjajiva, 46, the prime minister. Opposition activists have warned of protests if Thaksin is barred from returning from exile in Dubai.
