Tsipras slide

The poll gap enjoyed by Alexis Tsipras over the conservative opposition in Greece has narrowed dramatically since an election was called last week. His Syriza party was backed by 25% ahead of New Democracy on 22%. It enjoyed a 15% lead in national polls as recently as May.


Dance deaths

At least 38 young women were killed in a road accident in Swaziland on their way to the annual reed-dance ceremony at which the king chooses a wife.


Airport spies

Nigeria said it had uncovered a spy cell run by the Islamist group Boko Haram at Abuja airport. A boy of 14 was said to be collecting information on potential targets.
