Decision on reactor aid for Iran defered

VIENNA The International Atomic Energy Agency yesterday put off a decision on Iran’s request for technical help in building its Arak plutonium-producing nuclear reactor. The decision was interpreted by some as being effectively a “no” vote, while others said it left room for Tehran to renew its request. Six other Iranian requests, for help with less contentious projects, were approved. (AP)

Bombs rock protest

DHAKA Violent clashes over Bangladesh’s electoral reforms left one man dead and several others injured. The man was stabbed after three bombs exploded near anti-strike activists in Dhaka, a witness said. The dead man was allegedly caught with an unexploded bomb. (AP)

Stiffer passport rule

WASHINGTON More air travellers will be required to carry passports instead of other identification when entering the United States after January 23. US citizens and travellers from areas such as Canada and Bermuda have been allowed to show other identification. (AP)
